Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Uga vs PETA
Your take on this? I can see part of the argument here but not all of it. I know folks in Savannah that have a couple dogs from that line and they are not the healthiest animals with the breathing and hip/shoulder issues and I take it that keeping it always in that bloodline is maybe making it worse? They absolutely cannot take the heat. I also know that Uga is probably more taken care of than some human beings are; I don’t see any abuse. A lot to process here. Breed some of a bloodline with a more elongated snout and narrower trunk back into the mix?
And let’s leave the politics out so this doesn’t get nuked please...what would you change, if anything?
Comments
Those dogs have been bred terribly for a long time for all kinds of weird traits. They can’t even mate without human help. No point in having a dog that can’t run and jump and play. Sad.
Peta has bellowed about this before. It's their way to stay relevant. Uga is one animal that has the best care. From his caretakers to an entire vet school for medical issues. I agree the breed needs something done especially for their breathing issues. I thought at one time the vet research team at UGA was looking at things to improve their health. Research is a long, slow, very expensive process.
This is some good stuff. Totally plant based./s
The plant the processes hogs? 😏
I think at some point we have to breed them a bit healthier. How loud would Sanford get if Uga is the one jumping through that fog machine, snaps the banner 5 feet off the ground and sprints to the opposite end zone leashless leading the team? When he rared up at that Auburn player we made shirts and prints out of it, that’s how accustomed we’ve become to him barely being able to waddle over to his ice bag inside his air conditioned incubator.
You're correct of course. Especially regarding the lack of feisty abilities by our mascot and what we know about the deficient results of inbreeding (cough).
I'm an irreverent smart azz. Sorry to any orange I may have offended on purpose.
When PETA takes care of all the bad human care of strays and abandon dogs then we can talk. I am a dog lover and firmly believes a home is not a home without a dog. We do what we can but realize we cannot save every animal, just do our little part and donate to your LOCAL Humane Society not some national terrorist animal rights group. Uga is well taken care of as is the entire line. Need to take their crap elsewhere. My opinion
My take on PETA request.
They're full scale tinfoil hat wearing NUTTERS and should be ignored. The only response from UGA should be the following:
BUGGER OFF!
Every year PETA pops up and acts all disgusted about live mascots. They have to do something to try to remain relevant. Seem like a bunch of angry activists just trying to make a scene. They completely ignore that college live mascots are probably the most pampered and well cared for animals on Earth. If they want ethical treatment of animals, then they should be celebrating those live mascots and how they are treated. In fact, they just want money. They prey on people's emotions and try to shame us into giving them donations.
Can anyone give me directions to the nearest PETA run animal shelter? I'd like to see that donation money at work. I'll wait...
UGA doesn’t live better than some humans. Change that to most humans. Lives like a king.
"statistics compiled by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) showing that PETA’s shelter in Norfolk, Virginia has a high rate of euthanasia when compared to other shelters operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia.) "
Tip of the iceberg of their hypocrisy?
My opinion of PETA is not appropriate for a family friendly forum. And it has nothing to do with Uga. The post above mine is just the tip of the iceberg. They're grifters. No grifter deserves to breathe.
I think this guy may have been a PETA member. Or maybe am Auburn player. Hell he might've been both.
Point of the post is UGA looks to have a pretty good vertical there. I know they have issues but UGA is royalty when it comes to animals and is treated as such.
Two different issues here.
I wandered into the middle of nowhere Virginia today and someone recognized my Dawgs bling and wanted to talk Georgia football. Peta is skating on that interest and wanting to raise money and political capital.Pwhile UGA is big in the news
Pure dog lines need some new blood and a breeder willing to throw over the standards to raise a healthier critter.
I found this article from 2016 about the Seiler family looking into healthier breeding for the UGA XI and beyond:
