The margins between life and death, success and failure are a lot thinner than we care to think. These young men displayed wisdom and compassion and will the team well.
Great that the players want to "do it for Dev." Great motivation and from all accounts he was a wonderful teammate and person. Why did he allow the inebriated driver to race over 100 MPH, though? There is big lesson in life for every player on the squad to learn from this tragic story.
I say "Do it for Dev" is too little, too late. How many of these players knew that Devin was out with Georgia staff drinking and driving? I am sure this was not the first time. If they really cared about their teammate, maybe tell him NOT to be involved in the risky activities? It was clearly against the law and **** (racing, riding with someone who was drunk) and it got him in a bad place. So, the time to "do it for Dev" would have been BEFORE the tragic accident that took his life - to NOT allow a friend to be out at 2AM at **** clubs and racing. That's like having a friend and not warning him/her to stay off the titanic. I mean, what did you expect would happen?? Now, if they want to commit to a current, fellow teammate and tell them to stay away from risky behavior, and be accountable to one another, that makes more sense.
Mistakes happen and are a part of life and growing. In truth, most of us got away with their mistakes, tragically Chandler and "Dev" didn't. May those that knew him learn as well as those who didn't.
