There are only a few human beings who average 6’6” and 328 pounds. There are even fewer who are still in high school and even fewer than that who are in high school and have the athletic ability to project as college football athletes. Coach Searels got three in one week. That borders on unbelievable! Go Dawgs!

The hard work now is the transformation and development process. Let's see how Sinclair and Searals turn these fellas from Clay into Steel.

So ready for the season now. Our current OL will win the Moore Award this year imo. This team we have will win it all again. We are very senior on both lines and that should really pay off.
Remember the opposition to Searels getting hired due to the poor OL play during his tenure with Mark Richt. My response then: blame the OL talent that he had to work with and not the coach. During his run with Richt, Searels had zero future NFL LTs, virtually no future NFL RTs, and the depth was so bad that the starters at one position were also the primary backups at others! But now that Searels actually has true OTs to work with - instead of guards playing tackle - and guys to rotate in from the bench so that the OL isn't running out of gas by the 4th quarter turns out that he was a pretty good coach after all right? I am sorry but during that era it was the worst of both worlds. Some programs emphasized landing a few elite OL recruits and playing them the entire game. That seemed to be the Urban Meyer approach when he was at Florida. Other programs knew that they couldn't land the blue chip players - especially at OT - so they just signed half a dozen or more 3 star OLs every class and would just rotate them all game long. That was the Wisconsin/Auburn/Arkansas approach back when those teams were good. Richt, for all his merits in other areas, didn't do either of those things.
My prediction: the same is going to happen with Mike Bobo. Most of his "bad playcalling" at UGA was actually the result of a combination of poor protection and mediocre WRs. (No, UGA fans, aside from A.J. Greene and Ben Watson - who wasn't a Richt recruit but transferred in from Duke - UGA didn't have big time talent catching the ball in that era, and the lack of 1000 yard seasons and long term NFL players proved it.) Now that his QBs are going to have time to throw the football and the guys catching it are generally better too - still no 1st round picks after Bowers but more depth - he is going to look a lot better also.
2 observations about the UGA '24 OL recruits being bigger and a new "trend". First, weight average of OL recruits may be more a function of whether UGA is recruiting more OG's than OT's. And 2nd, with top (OL) prospects expecting immediate NIL payout, UGA recruiting seems to have shifted to lower rated but still high ceiling prospects. (maybe that is the subject of a future CR "trend" article?) Are those "lower rated" prospects lower rated because of training and conditioning (weight up)?
Safe to say that the UGA nutrition, training and conditioning program will transform bodies and possibly have these players playing at a smaller (and healthier) weight.
