Lane Kiffin points finger at teams atop recruiting rankings in latest NIL rant
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lane Kiffin went on a rant at SEC Media Days about how unfair about the NCAA transfer portal and NIL deals have made college football.

Kiffen, always the whiner.
i think NIL will get a lot worse before it gets better. Obviously, it needs regulation is some form or fashion, and needs to conform to the three words in the title: Name, Image, Likeness. I don't really get how "collectives" play into those words, and i certainly disagree with the states that allow schools to contribute to the collectives. Players have the rights to do what they want with their lives: hire agents, autographs for money, promote items, have their presences on gaming systems, etc. But, if the collectives use donations to simply pay players, that's a foul.
Kiffin can be a child, but he’s not wrong about this. CFB has become an unmanageable monster and IT WILL eat itself.
Recruiting power at USC? That is funny. Nobody even wanted the job with looming sanctions. Even Riley turned it down at the time.
Kiffin recruited against a 2-year bowl ban and the loss of 30 scholarships over 3 years. There is no power against that. Lots of top local kids went elsewhere, mainly oregon, as a result. Plus, USC's facilities have never been great.
He was a mess at Tennessee but he's changed and I find him to be the one who often says what a lot are thinking but don't want to say out loud.
He's right that there's good and bad to everything and right now college football is stuck in the bad until more uniformity cones around.
Instead of B&Ming about the success of The Dawgs and others, why doesn't lane come on over to observe and learn....well it's because Lane is full of himself and has the conviction that all should just fall at his feet. Georgia's success has come from the hard work and commitment of Fan's, UGA administrators, and couches, especially Dooley to Smart. That's the difference between WINNERS and WHINERS!
Lane said tha hw wanted players to get paid but thecurrent format is bad for College Football. Which I agree and so do most purist. He made some good points( I just got in on the last couple of Q and A's). He talked about how players wanted to go to college and work towrd the NFL and getting paid then. Now, he said, paraphrasing, they get paid for showing up at college and basically get happy or satisfied with that money.
Young men with a lot of dough, unincentivized, can transfer when they're not treated as superstars, what could possily go wrong?
I like that the players that come to UGA know thye will not be coddled, that it is hard at UGA, they will have to earn playing time and they desire to play for Championships more than personal accolades. Go DAWGS!
I beg to differ. I don't think short term $$ is the #1 thing all kids decide on. And those who do might not be who we're looking for. We want kids who are passionate about the game and dream about an NFL career. Who see the Georgia culture (i.e., brotherhood, iron sharpening iron, evolved men, etc.) and want some of that. And oh by the way, 4 years of Athens and top-notch education ain't too shabby either. I'm not naive, and know having financial cushion to help the college career is on the criteria list. But I'd like to think talented guys are more concerned about personal and professional development, and getting into the league (where the money will come). Georgia has all that. Ole Miss doesn't. Go Dawgs.
What I love is that the Georgia football not only has the money (support of the University and boosters), but Kirby and company have proven to be masters of identifying and developing underrated highschool talent, see, e.g., Stetson Bennett, Ladd McConkey, Jordan Davis, etc. 😎
It doesn't take a genius to know that the NIL is messed up and is in need of some proper guide lines uniformly put in place. You only have to look at utk, they have a qb that they offered 2 million dollars a year when he was a junior in high school and will probably sit the bench this season.
@khummel
You talked about what Georgia has and what Ole Miss presumably doesn't have (I seriously doubt you're an Ole Miss expert but if I'm wrong let me know) But do you think Kirby could win a National Championship at Ole Miss?
@GtheGreek
If Kirby had said the exact same thing as Lane did would your response be the same? Doubt it. The truth is the truth no matter who is saying it
The players have some nerve making their employment decisions based on the same criteria as their coaches. Ruining college football? Let’s talk after the Dawg’s streak of national championships is over.
