Agree with the grades. We played a great game. Offense was better than defense. Great to see Milton back and good to see an effective enough running game that kept KY guessing. On defense, we just don't have an effective pass rush without bringing extra guys in and overloading the line. Most of the time Leary had time to throw. That's fine against him but probably won't work against more accurate QBs. DBs played pretty soft coverage and KY receivers were open more than I'd like to see. We got lucky on a sure TD pass from Leary that was just off the mark...but the KY WR was WIDE open.

Hope we'll continue to get better and be challenged. We seem to perform better when the heat is on!!

    GO DAWGS!!

You write for a UGA BullDawg fan site, I and others are your customers, and you wrote this:

Also it needs to be said, the roughing the passer penalty on Warren Brinson was very weak.

Is it too much to ask for you to write what that call really was?

That 15 yard penalty flag thrown by that ref was atrocious, not borderline, not just “weak”, and that ref should be graded out an F for that game and be prevented from calling any bowl games, CFB playoff games, as well as but most importantly NO SEC championship games for at least the next 3 seasons. Talk about needing a “re-education”, goodness that was ridiculous.

It wasn’t close, and if the ref states it was “subjective” and “close enough to throw” based on a 2 second reaction, then that ref is in the wrong business. He clearly has NO business on a DIV I Power 5 SEC football field wearing stripes and blowing a whistle on Saturdays.

    Full 🛑.

Have to agree Gbroni88 on the roughing the passer call. It was not “weak,” it was horrible. It raises serious questions about a ref’s competence for sure as well as possibly his integrity. No way he could have legitimately thought that was roughing the passer. The ball was still in the QB’s hand when initial contact was made. Both announcers and the rules guy all agreed it was a bad call. Call it like it is or say nothing.

What did we learn about our Dawgs last night? We can be dominating on offense when we are aggressive with our play calling. We also learned that our front 7 is not a strength. Our overall D is about average, I.e., C+. The DB’s are good most of the time. This team needs to light up the scoreboard to win against elite competition. The good news is it appears we can do that with aggressive play calling with an emphasis on passing. The passing attack makes the running game more effective.

bottm line: This team is very, very good on offense when we open up the playbook. Failing to open up the playbook, is not wise with our defensive liabilities. Gotta keep the pedal to the metal to keep winning.

CBeck played really well. His INT on 3rd and 16 was a bonehead play. It didn't matter but will be a teaching point for CKS. CKS hates when a PR doesn't fair catch the ball. As MMews found out on the punt he didn't catch that bounced down to the 5.

Nice to have some healthier RB's and the OL starting to play better. But let's not pretend the D is fixed or anywhere near good. KY QB completion % was 38%. He missed NUMEROUS wide open receivers all over the field. When he did put the ball on a KY WR it was 50/50 whether they would drop it or catch it. KY OG #62 killed 2 drives himself w/dumb penalties in the 1st half. KY was overrated based on beating up on a terrible FU team. That defensive effort would not be enough against a top 5 team.

The '23 DL is the weakest link. Not only no playmakers but not stout holding their own position. MWilliams career seems to be mirroring Travon Walker's UGA career. And not in a good way. Both had some shining moments as freshman. TWalker disappeared during his 2nd year. Balled out his 3rd year and went #1. BUT to have a 5* recruit of that caliber and get 1 year of production means CKS BETTER BE 1 of the top 3 recruiters in the country. To keep the cupboard full when you get but 1 big year from a 5* recruit before they move on to the NFL. This year not much noise from MWilliams. First it was JDJ who disappeared. He was more impactful vs KY. But MWilliams has been non-existent this season.

PWoodring is building/ regaining trust. DB's? Incomplete. KY WR's were OFTEN open. The KY QB wasn't close to getting the ball to them.

The BB's leg whip on his dropped TD catch was scary. But BB's is tough. Trained to be like iron. His training in HS reminded me of Rocky IV when Rocky trained in Russia. Thankfully bounced back w/nothing serious.

That roughing the passer wasn't "weak". It was a horrible call. The defender made contact with the QB not even a second after the ball was thrown. Defender didn't even tackle the QB when he knew he was too late and eased up.

Looks like some freshmen and RS Freshmen who are 3rd-4th string should get some shots with the 1's on defense. Need to create some pressure with our main four down linemen when we get to the tougher part of the schedule.
