Georgia football finishes ahead of Alabama in final AP Poll for 2023 season
The 2023 season has come to a close, with Michigan taking down Washington in the national championship game.

So a 2 loss Texas and an “OK” Washington team with the same record finished ahead of us after we were number 1 the entire year and lost by 3 points in a game where we had a team full of injuries.
Sure, that makes sense
*Also, we lost by 3 and plummeted 5 spaces. Washington gets crushed, Texas has a bigger loss than us and neither move a single place.
Still wrapping my head around the fact that professional football teams with SEVEN losses will be in the playoffs to try to win a championship but college teams that slip up once are done. 12 teams will cut down on the BS but man the 4 team playoff never made sense
Agreed! For sure we should be ahead of a two loss UT team which never should have been in the playoffs in the first place!
So, at least third! And UW did not play NEAR the number of ranked teams that we did….but I really would be okay with third! At least we are ahead of Bama! Wondering what the Finebaum show will be like today….!
Can’t wait for the Dawgs to travel to Austin to show UT what a REAL SEC team looks like!!
Go Dawgs!
This selection group needs some new faces. They can't seem to get about anything correct.
Think we should have been #3. remember last year, AP voters put TCU #2. This article doesn't show it, but the actual numbers have us within about 10 polling pts of Texas, probably because Feinbaum voted Bama at 4 and us at 5.
Just like I posted yesterday, the polls are nothing but professional wrestling kayfabe narratives. If the poll was legit, Georgia should be #3, even though it's well understood that a healthy Georgia team would have beaten both teams that play for the NC last night. I fully suspect that at some point the NCAA will finish its investigation of Michigan's, uh, indiscretions and **** them of the NC; however, that remains to be seen. If the polls were legitimate, the final tally would be Michigan*, Georgia, Alabama, Washington, and Texas. Michigan gets the asterisk due to the possibility that they will be stripped of the NC at some point. When the CFP dropped Georgia from #1 to #6, us Georgia fans knew the fix was on... Nothing but professional wrestling kayfabe shenanigans
After watching the National championship game last night a common theme appeared: the Line of scrimmage was where this game, the semi-final games, and the SEC Championship game were won or lost.
Bama beat us at the LOS, Michigan beat Bama at the LOS and was able to effectively disrupt & nullify Penix with only a 4 man rush.
The Dawgs better focus much of the off-season to getting better at the line.
No one cares about these polls at this point.
Politics, Politics, Politics, that’s what it All boils down to. UGA is the Real #1. But for the purposes of this AP the Dawgs should have been no lower than #3. Go Dawgs !!
Michigan is only #1 out of the CFP teams... then There is Georgia, that is all. I would have love to have seen a team trying to run against Georgia, using the run to set up the pass, good luck with that
We beat 3 of the top 10 teams. Only Michigan can say that. We should be #2. No friggin way Texas in any universe should be ahead of us. 2 or 3 makes sense. AP voters are just as **** as the bowl committee.
Alabama looses in overtime to Michigan and drops to #5, while Washington loses by 21 and stays at #2? C'mon.
It was clear from the start that both were the weaker semifinalists, and Michigan amply proved that last night.
Truth is that Michigan, Alabama and Georgia are closely bunched. I still think Georgia firing all cylinders beats Michigan or Alabama firing all cylinders (a healthy Bowers alone would make the difference).
But you gotta give #1 to Michigan: They won it and they truly did look the part last night. Corem is a beast and their DL is really good.
I'd put Alabama #2 simply because they beat Georgia, and then Georgia #3. Then, Washington, then Texas.
I get Washington given they were in the championship game but Texas?! They were the weakest sister in the 4 and they remain 3. Not sure of the logic of DAWGS above Bama and yet behind Texas. That is why you just have to win them all and celebrate that. These polls are ridiculous especially when you leave a team like Iowa still in the rankings. I’m sure I’m not the only one but watching those games just made it even clearer that the DAWGs were easily one of the 4 best and would’ve likely won it all. On to 2024 and go DAWGS
From 1st to 6th....
Polls are meaningless
Leaving Georgia aside, the teams that stood out to me are FSU and Mizzou.
FSU gets blown out by UGA, and they are only 2 places below us...okay3, since they're 7th, but tied for 6th.
Now, Mizzou wins their bowl game against The powerhouse, and Mizzou is STILL ranked below FSU????
Clearly, the people doing these rankings don't specialize in critical thinking.
