It's all becoming the same thing. This is what happens when big money gets behind anything.
The lines between what's acceptable with the NIL and Collectives and what isn't right now is very blurry and is confusing to everyone. And what TN is doing in its latest suit against the NCAA is completely in contrast to its own State law. Many state laws, including one enacted nearly three years ago in Tennessee, echo the N.C.A.A.’s ban on pay-for-play payments. Tennessee’s law states that compensation cannot be provided in exchange for athletic performance in order to “maintain a clear separation between amateur intercollegiate athletics and professional sports.” Whether its money coming from the TN Collective or directly from an NIL deal it shouldn't make a difference. The player is getting compensated in one way or another, and it's almost impossible to police this kind of thing.
Basically it is a mess. No wonder Saban retired.
