Smart has not provided an update on whether the Bulldogs will have Dan Jackson and Joenel Aguero back for Saturday’s game after those two were ejected for targeting. If the SEC does not overturn their penalties, Jackson and Aguero will miss the first half….So, what is taking the SEC/Greg Sankey this long to make a determination on whether the two tackles rise to the level of targeting???? Easy enough to randomly submit the tapes to 10 officials across the conferences and have them answer yes or no then provide their rationale. Any vote above a 5/5 split determines the outcome. It would also provide every coach in the conference important perspectives on what is considered targeting.
IMHO, neither tackles were targeting. If the ruling holds, we're encouraging tackles below the waist which will increase the number of knee/leg/ankle injuries.
We've all seen enough football to know the difference between when someone is trying to hurt someone by playing dirty and a player just trying to make a play. THere should be a replay to determine the intent defined by a few parameters(launching,spearing, punching, upward **** with the helmet.) I believe it started with a few parameters and has morphed to the point of "well did he touch him with his helmet"? "DId his helmet touch anywhere"? and If the offensive player lowers his head then it shouldn't be targeting at all..
