They've really screwed-up CFB, haven't they? How do some want to fix this mess. Well, if a 12 team NC playoff is good, a 16 or 18 or 20, etc. is great! An active AD should not be on the CFP committee in the first place, especially making the AD from Michigan who is under multiple investigations of wrongdoing the chair. In the beginning, this guy said that strength of schedule would be very important. It's not. Losses is more important. So, the SEC and their harsh in conference scheduling has screwed, at least UGA and probably FL.

I 100% agree with this from the coaches, not because I don't want to be the kings of the SEC as champs and it will allow us to watch the Dawgs in an extra game, which you can never have to much Georgia football. But it would be beneficial this year because it would give our team an extra 3 weeks of rest to get people back and be closer to full strength and it will decrease the chances of further injuries. Plus you give Kirby almost a month to game plan for the first playoff game, that makes it hard for the opponent to beat and you can start planning for the other team that is on the 1st round bye.

It is amazing that an active AD for a team that could play a role in the playoffs, this year or any year, has any say in this process. It hosed us last year and everyone knows it. We could, and should, have had 3 NCs in a row if not for the incredibly misguided selections. It doesn't only hurt 2-loss teams. As we saw last year, it hurts 1 loss teams.

Give it to a computer that takes everything into consideration with an oversight committee of non-partisan selectors.

Its a very legit concern. IMO we are asking the players to play too many game. However we have to be able to raise the $$$ to support paying the players and coaches for play. The mighty $$$. Yes your playing for a first round bye, but your playing an extra game to do so.

And the loser of the conference championship gets either no cfp opportunity or risk of further injury and no first round bye.

The conference championships have been devalued for some time now…winning the SEC means nothing if during the game you lose key players to injury and wear your team out. The goal is the National Championship. Georgia has a boat load of injuries and players recovering. The extra time to heal up and plan for the coming playoff run far exceeds an SEC ring. These kids are being asked to play too many games just so the big boys can **** in extra revenue. NIL is out of control and the portal guarantees that nobody is going to be able to grow talent at home and keep it. The game as we knew it, is gone. Ole Miss bought the team they have this year. Ohio State spent over 20 million to get and retain players for this year. If you want to compete, you will also have to pay more and more, not only to get players, but to keep them.

The SECG has become a liability. You may not be rewarded for getting there and adding another loss to your resume. Two 2 loss teams and one becomes a 3 loss team-OK your out! It's a farce. The SEC just cannilbalizing itself!

I think the most important point, and something likely to change in future years, is made at the very end of the article. The tiebreaker should be the CFP rankings, then the loser of the SEC championship game will be more likely to still make the playoffs.

Kinda what most are saying, but slightly different. As a UGA fan, if we have a first round home game vs. SEC championship game, I'll take the home game every time. Obviously home field advantage is better than a neutral site game, and you'll also play a lesser team than the one you'll face in the championship game. We all know that a top 2 sec team is better than the #2 team in any other conference. Plus it's the same number of games with a longer break for recovery before you play your 13th game of the year. You essentially just get a bye on championship weekend instead of the 1st round.

It's great to win the league but the risk is too high against a quality opponent.

I do not see any way to fix this… except doing away with conference championship games… 😑

Playing in the SEC Championship is a liability and a big one. Prime example is last year's screw job when we lost to Alabama in the SECC and dropped to #6. That left the college football world flabbergasted, as no #1 had ever dropped out of the CFP by losing a championship game. If the SEC wants to get the maximum number of teams in the CFP, then the only logical thing is to do away with the SECC. Definitely no incentive to try to win the SEC now, except maybe for personal pride.
