    some kids just want to be closer to home. If not, sometimes culture just doesn’t fit with expectations. He will do well.

    @Brooksie

    UGA has 27 players signed - including five WRs and 2 TEs - and would have gladly signed 30 had some guys they were targeting not gone elsewhere. They are going to pick up still more players from the portal and plus possibly on the February NSD. Plus - though Dawgnation downplays this a bit - more than a few of the kids who "chose to enter the portal" the past few years had been told by Smart that their scholarships weren't going to be renewed.

    Previously Smart recruited WRs - from high school and the portal - who were content to come to UGA despite knowing that they weren't going to be featured in the offense were going to spend more time blocking than catching highlight reel passes on vertical and curl routes. After the undesirable results of the last 2 seasons (last year when McConkey and Bowers were hurt plus this entire year) he knows that this approach doesn't work and is shifting to a new one. That makes the WRs recruited under the previous philosophy vulnerable.

    @KBP You might want to check this kid's offer list again. Despite his being a 4 star top 100 recruit with no "issues", LSU was the only major school showing real interest, and the guy who recruited Tuggle for LSU was UGA's former WR coach. Otherwise, no interest from the "national WR factory" schools like Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Miami, FSU and Florida. Little interest from regional schools for a midwest/Big 10 area kid despite 3 visits to Notre Dame and 2 to Penn State. Some interest from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan State and Illinois but those aren't the programs that UGA should be recruiting against for big time WR and QB talent (recruit against them for under the radar linemen and RBs all you want).

    WR recruits have watched UGA for years and seen a program that won't allow them to put up more than 750 yards receiving (Ladd McConkey's 762 yards in 2022 is the most for a WR in the Smart era, and that was a 15 game season … amazingly Arian Smith, who currently has 750 yards, will likely have the most yards for any Smart WR in a single season!) and generally didn't give them very many opportunities to make the big highlight plays needed to impress NFL scouts. Highly ranked WRs who came to UGA despite this tended to be guys that other schools scouted and chose to trust their own evaluations of them over the recruiting service rankings.

    Not sure why the coaching staff never gave this kid !

    Best of luck to him!

    The 3 receivers who hit the portal had a combined 4 catches this season. I’ve observed that most great receivers (unlike linemen, DBs, and LBs) seem to demonstrate their talents as freshmen. Only Nitro showed glimpses that he was a good receiver and the others showed us very little. I always hate to see these kids go, but some of them may have been encouraged by our coaches to seek greener pastures. I wish them the best and I’m confident we will use their scholarships wisely. Go Dawgs and good luck guys!!!

    It made sense for Jackson but since Tuggle got in the game at least once, I thought he would be a starter next year. Maybe not. As others have mentioned, despite NIL there are still strict scholarship limitations and out of state tuition can be a large amount.

    247 rates him as a 3 Star Transfer so maybe it's for the best.

    The portal can take guys away but it can also bring ya some too.

    If Kirby is working the TP, and the GT receiver comes to Athens, maybe the coaching staff did encourage him.

    Was looking forward to hearing the "Touchdown Nitro Tuggle!" call on gamedays.
