Gunner Stockton impresses teammates, Georgia with confidence in relief of Carson Beck
ATHENS — Gunner Stockton stepped in for Georgia quarterback Carson Beck in the SEC Championship game.

The most important thing that Gunner doesn't have that involves experience is being able to read defenses and react in a split second if that changes at the snap. The RPO game is complex. I do think he can handle the pressure, and I am completely on board with Gunner running the offense no matter what the outcome. Bobo will need to not overload him but also give him enough for him and the team to be successful.
Gunner reminds me a little of a young Murray or Bennett. Tough situation to walk into. He'll do fine. Just needs to avoid these type of plays if possible -

I wouldn’t be ultra confident if Gunner was starting in the Sugar Bowl this upcoming weekend, but the fact that he has about 20 days to practice with the starters gives me much more confidence. Twenty days is a lot considering Spring practice is only 15 days and summer (preseason) camp is 25 days. Hopefully that will benefit everyone and we will be almost at full strength by Gameday. Go Dawgs and get-um Gunner!!!
I think we need to remember that a guy named Jake Fromm was forced to step in for the starter against Notre Dame way back in 2018. Fromm had 3 quarters of "game" experience and a lot less time in the system than Gunner does. That season turned out pretty good… Gunner has 3 weeks to prepare, and our defense has 3 weeks to heal up and catch its second wind… Nothing will be easy, but Gunner will be up to the task…
As I mentioned in another comment, keep in mind that Stockton has been on campus for 3 years now. If Beck didn't come back he would've been out starter this year. With a few weeks to prepare, he will do great and the team was pumped to have him out there.
I for one will be awaiting the second opinion on Carson…do not count him out just yet. Gunner will ready I am sure.
I have total confidence in GS. Does anyone see a lil stetson in him ??
Geez he'll run right into a DB. tough kid, it was fun to watch him Saturday
I’m Very sorry that Beck is hurt. And wish him the Very best. But if Stockton is gonna be the man, he will make UGA proud.. He will make mistakes, but he will also make some great plays. He has my trust. As others have already stated Gunner has similar traits to A. Murray and S. Bennett. If Beck is unable to go I’m confident that Gunner can and will lead the Dawgs to victory. Go Dawgs !!
As odd as it sounds, I am actually very glad that Stockton threw the pick. It tempers his success with a good learning moment.

Agreed. Small amendment though: He doesn't have game experience. He's gotten lots of practice reps that mimic the speed and complexity of games, if not the ferociousness. Also, even if he doesn't have game experience, this young man seems to have lot of game in him.
Beck has a bigger arm. But Gunner looks like he can fire the ball plenty well. Plus, he has the legs of Bennett, which should benefit a team with a less-than-dependable passing game.
Mike and Conner must have seen as much of him as anyone but the players and coaches, so I'm curious about their takes.
It's consistently come through that the players have a lot of confidence in him. I'm Kirby meant it when he pumping Stockton up the other day on national television by grabbing his arm and saying, "This kid's special. This kid's special."
Who knows? This might focus everyone for the playoffs and enable the O to come up with new looks.
One thing's certain: Notre Dame, Indiana and Boise State don't have a lot of tape on him.
Gunner kind of makes me think of a combo of Aaron Murray and Stetson Bennett. One things for sure he’s not lacking in the courage department !! He’s not blazing fast with his legs but fast enough to make a few yards on busted plays and more on designed plays. He’s gonna make some mistakes. But I also think he’s gonna make some great plays.
I believe he will give his all for the team on and off the field of play. His Dad Rob is in the Ga. Southern Hall Of Fame. He was on the Eagles Defense but I can’t remember which position. So football is in Gunner’s DNA !! Go Dawgs !! Go Gunner !!
Kirby: “I wish he’d gotten more game experience up to this point in time.”
That would be Kirby’s own fault. He tends to put QB back ups in very late—long after most of us are asking, “why is our starter still in there?” There have been blowouts in years past where all the backup did was hand the ball off—run clock. That’s on Kirby.
