Colbie Young plans to enter not guilty plea, charges not be dismissed against Georgia WR
ATHENS — Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young plans to enter a not guilty plea on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault of an unborn child and waive his formal arraignment. That’s according to Young’s lawyer Kim Stephens, who spoke to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Hearld.

So the Athens district attorney won’t seek the death penalty on an illegal migrant for first degree murder but refuses to drop a he said she said case where the she now’s says it was nothing, is that about the gist of the situation. As it stands now there is no witness to any crime but let’s go ahead and ruin this young man’s life
I could have predicted this would happen. An over zealous DA and an office that will prosecute any case to make a point of zero tolerance to athletes from UGA. Even at the expense of the sprit of the charges and law. If the witness that the prosecutors office wants to recant why would you go forward and put this into a jurors lap if not to make a point? This prosecution is baffling and honestly borders on prosecutorial misconduct. It is a misdemeanor and I were Young I would ask for a bench trial if this goes forward. I would call the the GF and have her tell why she recanted and what the DA's office told her. Crazy days when you are making a point to punish a young man for an argument between he and his girlfriend.
When is Deborah Gonzales' term over - early January? The office may not have the staff available to do the work to dismiss the case. Her Office has been a dumpster fire since she began. Another George Soros DA meets a predictable ending.
The Athens-Clarke County justice system, including the police, hates the UGA athletic department!
Wow, the insane takes in the comments section are unbelievable.
What were the comments deleted? Was it that bad? Honestly this is crazy. How quickly they were to charge the guy but also how reluctant they are to drop the charges when the same person that filed the report decants her statement on the report. Where is the same energy in trying to clear this young man's name as it was when trying to trash his name. This hurts the recruiting narrative. You don't hear about this going on at other schools.
You got it, Robin.
I’m curious if anyone can answer this question regarding Colby’s eligibility. He has already missed 8 games and could miss 3 more if our Dawgs make it to the finals. If he is found “not guilty” would he be able to petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility due to a “hardship”? I’ve seen the extra (hardship) year granted numerous times for early to mid season injuries, but what about being suspended for being wrongfully accused….if that’s the case. Go Dawgs and good luck Colby.
someone please correct my math. If his first year at Miami was 22, and he played 23 and 24, wouldn’t he have another year of eligibility??
Brooksie,
I was also wondering about his eligibility since he had 2 years at Miami and 1 at UGA, but it looks like he was recruited out of a junior college which accounts for the 4th year. I did notice there is an “extenuating circumstances” clause in the “hardship” rules. I’m sure Kirby has explored that option, but it would only matter if Colbie is found innocent. Go Dawgs!!!
you guys see that Arik Gilbert is back in the portal trying to clean up his act.
