I'm a UGA graduate, older brother Auburn, youngest Florida. We texted all through the game. I really thought we had blown it again and man they finally proved me wrong. We still have a slimmer of hope. We still play some careless ball in the 2nd half. But Go Dawgs.
blind squirrel theory… they almost blew a 26 point lead? Clowns…
Way to throw water on one of our few bright spots this year Beach.
You must be a thrill to hang out with.
just make the plays you should make and quit with the turnovers- drives me nuts- Go Dawgs!!
I cringed with amazement at the many times and ways Georgia tried to lose this game. And had they done so, after building the massive lead they had, it would have gone down as one of the worst losses in recent history (which is pretty historical, in and of itself)… and I would have finally thrown in the towel on game-watching for the season. BUT they didn't!! So I live to watch another game, because they really do have some good kids and skilled players on that team, best in a long time. Go Dawgs!
Gotta go with Beach on this one, who I’d imagine like myself displays plenty of enthusiasm from time to time for things non-Georgia men’s basketball related.
If the Dawgs had made a second half comeback, rather than barely hanging on for dear life, then I might dare to view it as a positive development.
Always nice to beat the Gators, though. At least Georgia found that one nut for a hated rival.
I tip my hat! Amazing what can happen when one makes free throws at a clutch time. Some of the blunders had me pulling my hair tho. I still don't see 'the dance' unless they win the next three. Gotta get that conference record closer to .500 IMO
Amazing what can be accomplished with MOVEMENT by all 5 players late in a game. Where has that been all year? Well earned victory, pups. If you really want to impress a few of us Mediocre Mike naysayers…GO WIN A couple of very winnable SEC ROAD GAMES.
I understand your Mediocre Mike pessimism beachwgn. Yes, they did almost blow a 26 point lead but for once, they didn't. Probably a one-off win, we shall see if they can play with that intensity late in the game moving forward. One thing I will say, as much as I dislike Mediocre Mike from a coaching standpoint, his players seemed to rally around him. He hasn't lost the team and that is a good thing.
This was a huge win. When was the last time any UGA roundball team beat the No. 3 team in the country? Have we ever?
Even more importantly, this very young team hung in there. Against Tennessee, Miss State, A&M, Missouri, Arkansas and Auburn, we fell apart after leading at halftime — sometimes by a lot..
Yeah, we gave up a 26-points to a talented, extremely experienced team. But this time, Demary, Cain, Newell and others decided they weren't going to lose. They stopped the bleeding and scored the last seven points. That's the crucial difference.
This is a very young team in a league dominated by seniors. A classic problem for youngsters is that they freeze in the face of on-the-line intensity from players more experienced at turning up the heat. But this time, at clutch time, we more than matched Florida's intensity.
With two more wins in the three remaining games (even if we lose to Texas), we'll deserve to be in the field. Much like the football Dawgs last fall, these basketball Dawgs have probably faced the toughest schedule in the country. Not sure we'll get credit for that, because some on the committee will be looking for reasons not to put so many teams from one conference in the tournament.
The trial by fire is showing up in leadership development. Demary gets better and better as a floor general and has added lethal shooting to his repertoire Newell also seems more willing and able to put the team on his shoulders. (On the other hand, Cain's lackadaisical passing needs to improve.)
White deserves credit for the right game plan (come out shooting first and asking questions later) and for the set play that put Cain in the position to hit that crucial three.
The truth is that this team is another step forward in White's year-by-year improvements. Next year, bodes well. If key players don't transfer out, we'll have everyone back but Newell and those two second-string transfer guards who are seniors. I'm not in the tank for White. He may or may not bring us to the promised land. But — assuming we win another game or two — he's earned coaching that more experienced team next year.
In the meantime, here's hoping that Newell, Demary and the others do great things from here on out!
Yeah, Caine's passing was OMG. In fact the whole team has been guilty of some really bad passing, and that gets amplified when the reciever of the pass doesn't meet it aggressively and lets the D get in there for the "steal". Next thing you know, turnover, gift points, momentum shift. Those should be easy fixes, but still happening with way too much frequency, even when the D is desperate/intense and you know they're looking for steals. Go Dawgs!
