- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Will G-Day Game Survive

ESPN reported that 19 Power 4 programs have canceled their spring games this year, but with G-Day already announced for April 12, Georgia Bulldogs fans had figured Kirby Smartâs program would not be joining such schools as Ohio State, Southern Cal, Texas and Nebraska in deciding to cancel their spring games or replace them with some other player activity.

Wholeheartedly agree Bill. So much tradition in the G-Day game that I'd hate to see it vanish.
Doing that would be just like removing the Wednesday Par 3 contest at The Masters golf Tournament.
When Brooks and Smart were both acting like the spring game was a maybe each year you could see the writing on the wall .What a kick in the face for life long family traditions . Oh well , just another reason it will soon be another sport that doesn’t care about fans . Worked well for NASCAR .
@SnakeScott13 @MontanaDawg I whole heartedly agree with you my fellow Dawgs fans. It’s so very sad to see the direction that CFB and including UGA is headed.
I don’t watch the NFL. And I have little interest in other sports. Dawgs football along with all its great traditions has been much more than Just entertainment for me. It’s actually an escape though briefly from the hardships and some times brutal realities of life. That’s Not to say everything is bad in my life, Far from it God has blessed me Far More than I could ever deserve.
But Dawgs football is my little “special place” as compared to some guys do golf or hunting and fishing etc. etc. The usual culprit Money has about ruined it. And No I’m not saying players don’t deserve some compensation. I don’t want to get into a lengthy political discussion about all the nuances involved in that.
It’s just as an old man I’m seeing something I’ve held dear for most of my life crumbling on the part of Greed from many persons and entities involved and certainly Not just players. Sad. 😥
The Spring Game is one of my favorite games of the year because of two reasons.
Go, Dawgs!
Bill—Great article, as usual. Even though watching college football is my most treasured sports pastime, the whole new scheme of the "new day" college football has become more and more distasteful. From NIL(NFL2) to the diminishing importance of spring games—it seems that things we once treasured are now passe. You can't park on campus to tailgate unless you have a signed order from Elon, you can't go enjoy a wonderful spring game because some coach crazily thinks he's gonna get his players pilfered by all of his competition, and the saddest thing of all—you can't get a young man to play football for Hometown U because his "money situation" is better somewhere else.
