It really doesn't matter what game plan you have when your opponent shoots 60% threes and then gets every possible good roll there is. I didn't even check their overall shooting %, but I'm sure it was stratospheric. How could you blame Mike White? Nobody could've beaten this team on that night.

  • MontanaDawgMontanaDawg ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

    @lucydog....Zags shot 55% from the field, 60% on 3-pointers...

Dawgs Shot 35% from the field, 5/26 from 3-point land...

Zags shot well, but we certainly didn't help ourselves with our offensive performance. It was lousy.

Blaming White is real easy for some of these guys that post here.

Guys like Gramster & PlateauDawg don't understand sports in general, so consider the sources.

Then you have Beach dawg or whatever he calls his troll self who is just an empty, gutless idiot and nothing more.

Maybe they would have been happier if White had gone 0 & 33 instead of beating Kentucky by 13, beating number 4 Saint Johns, which just beat Omaha by 30, beating a 30 & 4 Florida team, beating Tech, beating Notre Dame by 21.

Not many expected UGA to beat a Gonzaga team that has played for the NC at least twice and is in the tournament every year.

10 years since UGA has been to the dance and all they guys want to do is hate.

    It's sad.

It's what I expected. Gonzaga is year in year out a great team. The history and leadership showed. Bad draw for the newbie dawgs. I get the fans that are upset though.

Attack the messengers dazzle, it's all good. I may not understand sports but I do understand when a coach stands helplessly on the sidelines with 4 timeouts in his pocket and his team melting down under the pressure of a 7 turnover 21-3 opponent run. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Mike White seems like a classy person and has the respect of his players, and is a very decent recruiter, but he absolutely suks when it comes to X's and O's. Just another in a long line of mediocre hires, Jirsa-Herrick-Felton-Hermann-Fox-Crean. There's a list that scream HOF coaches, yes?

Lotta harsh criticism of Coach White. Is he the guy to take our Hoop Dawgs to an elite level? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure he's the guy that has led them out of the college basketball wilderness. I'm not 100% satisfied with the job he's done either, but give him some credit already.

@dazzledawg Not many expected UGA to beat Gonzaga ? It was an 8/9 game. Literally the definition of a coin flip. And it was over in 5 min of game time. A good coach calls TO when it’s 7-0. White just stood there & watched it go to 21-3 27-3 30-5. Perhaps deep down he knew he & his staff(which isn’t sec quality either) had no answers.

Anyone who has played basketball at a competitive level can see Whites offense is trash. It isn’t even really an offense. He routinely gets outcoached esp via halftime adjustments. He’s a good recruiter. And players seem to like playing for him. Other than that he sucks. If you “know sports” I would love for you to breakdown what you like so much about Whites offensive or defensive philosophie. Enlighten us please. Should he play more 1-3-1 next season ? How would you solve the scoring droughts that we have so often ? Back cuts ? Feed the post ? Let’s hear it expert

"White has coached enough basketball to know that there will be outlier games and statistical anomalies."

This was no outlier. Anyone else notice the embarrassing graphic showing that Gonzaga has won 39 (now 40!) NCAA tournament games since 2003, compared with UGA's ZERO?

It is shameful that this talent-rich state's flagship university refuses to devote enough resources to support a first-class basketball program. And beyond comprehension that it would choose the mediocre head coach of its most bitter rival to guide it out of the eternal wilderness that has been Georgia basketball for more than a century.

Oh yeah, anyone else notice how florida's doing since happily waving goodbye to that substandard coach as he headed for UGA? Yep, Dawgs beat 'em (FINALLY) in Athens this year, but them **** gators are winning when it matters most—in the postseason.

C'mon, Brooks, UGA's long-suffering basketball fanbase deserves better.

I don't understand all the hating, either. White may not be another Bruce Pearl (though you never know). But he hasn't done anything other than make us better for three straight years.

Even making it to the tournament was exceeding expectations, and then we got about the worst draw we could have gotten. Like Oklahoma, the Go-Dogs were highly motivated. But they're also incredibly experienced in March; we haven't won a tournament game in 23 years. This game had Sacrificial Lamb written all over it.

Winning at the NCAAs is the next step for White and Co. And they've put us on the trajectory to do that. Our second-best player sounds above like he's planning to stay alongside Blue Cain, and two or three (of four good big men - not including Newell). Plus we have blue chips at SF, PF and C coming in next fall. To improve roster, UGA just need to bring back most of those guys and bring in a couple of good transfer guards.

Lawrence and Leffew worked out great. But now that players can tell we're serious, we'll get attention from talented second string guys on top-tier teams who want more playing time.

  • CandlerParkCandlerPark ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

You said it yourself: Gonzaga's won 40 tournament games since the last tourney game won by Georgia.

And you know what? This team did make it to the tourney. That's called progress!

Twenty wins, in the toughest college conference ever assembled. By seeding, this was the best team we've had since 2001-2 (which Harrick & Son managed to get vacated).

White has improved UGA for three straight years. The Steg is rocking like never before. And our best player (other than Newell) says in this very article that he's returning to the G. Almost all our players were underclassmen, so we'll have a good number of returnees.

And you're still whining? You sure you're not angry about something else?

  • PlateauDawgPlateauDawg ✭✭✭ Junior

I don’t understand how so many ppl are ok with mediocrity & low expectations for UGA basketball. Barely making the tournament & performing worse than all 67 other teams once there isn’t success. Im sick of watching 4 guys standing around and 1 poor shooter go iso on offense. Little ball movement or movement without the ball. No plays called. We will NEVER advance past mediocre with White. Unless he hires an offensive coordinator of sorts. When Dusty May left his staff at Fla he was in trouble & he’s too stubborn to admit he just isn’t a very good coach.

  • PlateauDawgPlateauDawg ✭✭✭ Junior

Harrick didn’t get 2002 vacated Adams & Dooley did.

And we got a 9 seed. We were 10 2x with Fox. Difference is negligible. Literally 2 spots. At least with Fox we played close games vs 7 seeds.

  • PlateauDawgPlateauDawg ✭✭✭ Junior

one last thing : Texas is firing Rodney Terry and looks to be in talks with Sean Miller. So now we without any doubt have the worst coach in the sec. I think we have seen our ceiling under this inept special needs staff.
