Column: Georgia QB play shaky at G-Day, a question mark if Dawgs look to repeat in SEC

âBoth did some good things and both did some poor things,â Smart said, noting that both Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi â who combined to throw the ball 80 times â need more work.

Another slow start to the offense. Seems familiar.
Another slow story about it as well.
I didn’t get to “See” the game.🙄 But it sounds to me like there was Allot of emphasis on deep pass attempts. While that’s great it seems to have greatly reduced the number of intermediate and short passes.
With a thin running game mixed in. In summary it’s a glorified scrimmage that I wouldn’t read very much into good or bad. To Me it sounded like there is a capability by Both QB to make the deep throws from an arm strength standpoint that’s about all I get from it.
I’m in Wait And See Mode no where even vaguely close to even Worry less alone Panic mode. Go Dawgs !!
This is a ho-hum story and honestly after attending many of these games they are mostly ho-hum.
The buzz last year was Carson Beck and Mykel. Mykel ended up getting injured game 1 and Beck was very pedestrian.
Outside of last year most of these have been meh…
The team is young and talented. Wide receivers look much better and more explosive. Linebackers are amazing. DL is young but shows a lot of promise. If the veteran DL can stay healthy then we could be great on defense as the cornerbacks are a strength this year. Branch looks solid at safety as well.
Offense is the issue. OL is BIG but not impressive. When the defense played hard the offense barely scored. The second half was set up for some points otherwise it could of ended up 3-3 at half Our second team defense is much better overall than our second team offense which is why Pugs struggled.
This team will be led by the defense and we need to find some playmakers on offens and our offensive line is a giant question mark imo. Punter looked not good. I felt ok about both qbs but nothing spectacular with either.
It's not a playoff game. It's just another practice, albeit a formal one. The media loves to read the tea-leaves from this very small sample. I'll wait until a few games into the season.
I attended the game and if the truth be known, Colter Ginn, a preferred walk-on, and currently the third team QB had the most impressive drive with the most impressive passing… Small sample but impressive nonetheless.
"Is the quarterback play good enough?" Albeit, the "Standard" at this point is a work in progress….not to be fully realized until the last game of the 25 season. Being the optimist, I look at the 599 plus yards between the six, 5 TD's, 2 INT's….albeit the whole scrimmage was a pass focused affair with a smidgen of ground pounding thrown in for spice….First, the INT's I attribute to stellar defensive play…..feeling good about that! Second, Gunnar's our guy, he's The Leader, he inspires every player to do better than their best, he is the weld that binds our TEAM of steel…..optimistically, I'm expecting 400 plus yards against lesser/cupcakes and 300 plus against ligit competition, at least 3 passing TD's in every game and less than .25 INT's over the season. I'm also optimistic about rushing….with the talent in the RB room Nate will be pushed toward 1000 plus yards with two others hot on his tail….August 30 and The Herd just 4 months and 2 weeks away.
Let's remember that a walk-on QB took us to (2) National Championships…anything is possible.
I don't put much stock at all in the Spring game when it comes to truly evaluating the QB or most other positions. The offense will always be slinging the ball a lot during this game, so there are bound to be more errant passes and a defense that knows the ball will be in the air.
It will be interesting to see who bolts during the transfer window and who we might pick up. News outlets said Kirby is still open to another QB - one who's experienced. But we all know it isn't going to be Nico !! He's not worth even close to what he is looking for.
With so many guys out on Both sides of the ball, including the O line and D line it’s very, very difficult to even get a blurry picture of what the Real 2025 Dawgs will be. G-Day is allot of fun but it’s just a glorified scrimmage. Even KS wasn’t able to draw that much from it.
So I’m like what has already been stated by others, let me get a few games into the season, Then I can tell more. But until we’ve seen these Dawgs play a Real game against some Decent competition it’s all speculation and opinion.
The Best Two things we can All hope for is 1) None of our Best players hit the TP 2) The guys we Need that are injured heal Fully and Quickly. Go Dawgs !!
“We’re very lucky to have two guys that care so much about Georgia,” Smart said. “And they’re not worried about the perception or whatever you’re gonna write coming out of the scrimmage of your view of them.”
Guess what. That’s exactly the kind of young men a winning team needs to be special. That’s why most Dawg fans believe we’re in very good hands with Gunner and Ryan as our QBs. It’s actually pretty simple - they’re both winners. They’re not negotiating for more NIL money. They’re working hard to be the best teammates possible. They care about their school, their teammates, and coaches. Anyone who has ever been in a huddle with the game on the line knows the kind of guys you want in there with you. Gunner and Ryan are those kind of guys.
Go Dawgs!
This is a good season to start off with 2 easily winnable games and get whoever the QB is off to a good start.
MG….
Typical GLOOM and DOOM…

"I attended the game and if the truth be known, Colter Ginn, a preferred walk-on, and currently the third team QB had the most impressive drive with the most impressive passing"
Well we all know that a walk-on could never start for UGA at QB, much less lead them to two NC's.
