Georgia’s 2025 SEC opener at Neyland Stadium doesn’t look quite so intimidating with the Vols’ projected starting quarterback no longer with that program.

Finance major, not business. BIG difference although Finance is better for his job.

    NIL…..

I hate NIL. Even when it hurts my opponent. Student athletes negotiating one year “contracts”. What a complete, not-funny joke it has become.

These coaches and fans will learn that money doesn’t buy loyalty. Outbidding another team for a player doesn’t guarantee that he will stay there, especially when times get hard or somebody offers more money. Smart doesn’t just understand the business side he also understands that competition at every position is important. Last year KS talked about having four scholarship QBs, there was a reason for that. QB is the most expensive NIL position and he didn’t want to be held hostage by that position. Lamaleava had a contract/agreement, he just decided it wasn’t enough.

“Iamaleava won’t be transferring to Georgia ….”

    Thankfully.

Yes, it's part of Terry but it's an entirely different degree and one that's worth differentiating. Business school degree could be 8 different majors and 1 co-major. It wouldn't be part of the point if Kirby had been, say, a Real Estate or Risk Management major.

"But the truth is, this is a contract that should have been in place before spring drills, and a relationship that should have been managed better."……My understanding is that Nico failed to uphold his end of the contract by skipping out on practice and demanding twice as much NIL to play in 25….as I stated in another post……Curtis might want to quickly commit to The Ducks cause Phil Knight already has the 4 mil stuffed in an Easter Egg for ole Nico! Then again, If I was Bowe Bentley, I'd be on the phone to Kirby & Mike…….yesterday.

Kirby has the right mindset. If money is the primary motivator, don't touch a player with a 10 foot pole no matter how highly ranked. Gunnar is a DGD and he'd never hold UGA hostage like that. Nico L. has just made a long road for himself. I'm sure the portal will blow up over him, but he's really not the be all end all.

College football has become a joke.

There will be no transfer w/in the SEC. Didn't a less talented (and injured) Hendon Hooker work his way into the 1st rd of the NFL draft after being showcased in that O?

Agent overplayed his hand and cost the kid being showcased in the TN run and gun offense. Don't be surprised if Nico fires his agent and comes back to TN with a modest raise.

Nico isn't worth $4M. Not even close. Glad the Vols didn't cave.

This salary cap, whatever it ends up being, will not deter teams from signing deals outside and above the cap through the Collectives. It sounds like that will be the way some teams structure their programs to get around the cap.

Actually, Smart learned the hard way what Heupel evidently already knew. Beck and the former TN QB shared the same toxic personality traits. If Smart could do it again, I bet he would have sent Beck packing after the 2023 season and spent the $4 million more wisely…. I certainly wish he had.

The collectives should be outlawed as well as NIL. NFL players don't get NIL, do they?
