National Top 100 player list suggests Georgia alarmingly low on starpower

A recent On3 ranking is eye-opening â only two Georgia players were listed â and would seem to support the former hot take from David Pollack that Georgia is seemingly lacking in star power entering the season.

I remember ESPN's love for Bryce Young. He was the greatest in their opinion. Stetson Bennett was too short to play and was no where near the same quality. After Bennett beat the crap out of Bama, Bennett hugged Bryce Young and the truth was obvious to everyone - Stetson was an inch taller. 2 years we hear how great Bryce Young was, and how no one could measure up. I get tired of the talking heads and the media narratives. Settle it on the field…
Gotta take this list with a grain of salt, although I do agree with Pollack. I go back to my old adage that experience trumps talent in the end. Unfortunately, we've got less of both coming into this season.
Just going to wait and see what comes this year. My only expectation is that we make the playoffs. Beyond that is gravy in my book at this point.
Oh, wow is me…and The Dawgs…..looks like our biggest challenges in 25 will be Texas with 7 in the top 100 and The Gators with 6 in the top 100…..beat both last year with those very players….Texas has to come to Sanford and Jax is always home for the Dawgs…..guess we'll see, but I'm bettin our back ups last year are better than TX & Gator back ups playing this year…more disrespect for Gunnar….much better than Arch based on what I saw last year…..Bama, 4…..Aub, 3….Tenn 1, Ole Miss 1, Kentucky 0, Miss St 0, GT 0, 3 cupcakes 0……..Guess On 3 overlooked: KJ, Daylen, Nate, Oscar, Noah Thomas, Elo, Zach Branch, Christian, Raylen and Lawson…..By my count, we're still the HUNTERS with 12 top 100 players!
Lets be honest, I don't think SB(UGA)" beat the crap" out of BAMA. We came from being behind for almost 3 1/2 quarters and with 8:09 left we took a 1 point lead. With 3 minutes plus left in the game we increased the lead to 8. BAMA though was moving with 2 minutes left and the game wasn't "sealed" until :54 seconds when Ringo crossed the goal line with the interception.
BAMA and Bryce Young beat the crap out of us in the SECC game as I remember the game.
Also, just being honest, the UGA coaches didn't fully realize what they had with SB until it was all said and done. I think midway through the year they came to the conclusion that SB gave UGA the best shot at winning because he was healthier than JT and could be a threat running it on occassion whereas JT would be more or less a liability back there against a fierce pass rush. Go Dawgs!
@jdatl3 Switch the QBs and Bryce Young lights up history books running the Georgia offense — just keeping it real.
The difference in the CFP was the defenses — and Jalen Carter's blocked FG turned the momentum in third quarter.
Monken went off on Stetson after the CFP for some missed checks in first half that might have put Dawgs ahead.
Stetson made some great plays in clutch moments, but his supporting cast - as we have seen play out in NFL — was no less than amazing.
I guess we’re doomed. 😏
Happy to be underdogs… makes for great locker room material. Plus I'd rather root for a pack of hungry junkyard dawgs with a team-first attitude than prima donnas looking in the mirror and their bank accounts. Go Dawgs!
How fun, I got Mike Griffith to comment. Although, I absolutely do not agree. Stetson had something everybody didn't have - unrelenting desire. SB made the clutch plays, and how many superstars don't. I can still see that Bryce interception to our DB for a pick six. Bryce throws it further, they win. Bryce isn't that good, and the NFL is waking up to it.
On the flip side, love your articles MG. I'm just a guy with a keyboard… :)
Mike Griffith, you just can't help yourself. It seems you just have to take a cheap shot at SB whenever possible. But I know you are just keeping it real. Paleeezz! So he missed some checks - did Monken tell you this personally or did your expert film analysis reveal this? I would think all QBs miss some checks. By contrast, how may checks did BY miss? Surely you know this to justify pointing out SB misses. And please elaborate on how BY would have lit up the history books if he was UGA's QB. SB was one of the best QBs in UGA history. He brought home 2 Nattys and performed his best under pressure. He was a true leader. He was MVP of both Championship games and I believe the semis also. He also a had a really good team behind him, as did BY. You should know you can build someone up without dragging someone else down. You should try it - your articles would be better for it.
Georgia is one of the premier football nursery's in the country. Have faith and patience.
I remember the Junkyard Dawgs under Erk Russel. Not a lot of "star power" but a very dominant defense. Only an idiot would underestimate the UGA defense going into this season.
I’m just looking at the titles to various stories on DN today. And Man are they depressing, IF You Let Em. Going by the titles today KS and Dawgs should just forfeit the season Before it begins !! NO WAY !! I’m no “expert” but I Believe this Dawgs team is gonna be Far better than the “experts” predict !! There is one redeeming factor to these shame stories they help to put a chip on KS and the Dawgs shoulders !! And that tends to be a good thing !! Go Dawgs !!

Response: Bryce Young had a high octane offense. And yet….did NOT win a NC! What happened? This is disrespectful to SB and you know it. Just a Vol in fake UGA clothing. You hate UGA we get it. Please….please stop dissing our guys and return to your beloved home of UFK @ Obknoxville. You fit there.
The difference in the CFP was the defenses — and Jalen Carter's blocked FG turned the momentum in third quarter.
SB can't get help to win….its complementary football. Even with the defense turning the game, SB still outplayed your Bryce darling.
Monken went off on Stetson after the CFP for some missed checks in first half that might have put Dawgs ahead.
Response: Did Bryce ever miss checks vs UGA? Of course, but he is 10X times better than SB right. Thought he was a genius according to you. How about that INT to seal the deal. But he's great. Now use the excuse of injuries. Thats what you do….no quarter given to UGA players especially SB but kiss Bama's bumm daily
Stetson made some great plays in clutch moments, but his supporting cast - as we have seen play out in NFL — was no less than amazing.
Response: So I guess Bryce won games all by himself. Only SB relied on defense and supporting cast. And again I bet you make the Bama excuse machine hum by saying but Bryce had injuries hurting him. If he was as clutch as SB he could do it with other players. NEXT MAN UP. Bryce never heard that I guess.
It all comes down to this. You can praise BY all you want. You can slam SB at every turn. But cannot deny that you have a vendetta against one player or maybe the whole team. You love UFK and Bama is just on your mind every second. And finally, all that said….SB was one of the most decorated college quarterbacks EVER! If it was always the defense, why did he do this:
SECC MVP
ORANGE BOWL MVP
Chick-fila CFP MVP (when the defense was getting torched by OSU)
2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME MVPs
FINALIST FOR THE HEISMAN
And he lives rent free in MG's head….LOL!
