Kirby Smart resets championship expectations for Georgia amid changing college football landscape

But the Georgia head coach, who won two in his first nine seasons on the job, recognizes that is going to be a more difficult task with how drastically the sport has changed.

He has his priorities correct - GO DAWGS!
It's easy for Smart to say that now that he has 2 Natty's under his belt. Lest we forget, this is the kind of attitude that got Mark Richt run off not that long ago. Kirby changed the standard for sure, but Dawg fans now want to stay on top of the mountain.
Of course they want to stay on top. Winning 3 in a row ain’t easy, there’s a reason why we would have a broke record if we won 3 in a row…..again, “it ain’t easy”.
It certainly takes some luck also, “rather be lucky than good”. Cause **** happens.
We’re in good hands, no issues at all with Kirby. We are **** lucky to have him.
Kirby will let you know when he thinks we have a good chance to win the Natty. "we're doing the hunting" lingo. "You're either elite or your not!"
This is a young team. Limited experience at so many positions. New faces everywhere. Kirby knows the weaknesses, and he's proven he can set the standard. I'm not delusional, believing in a national championship every year. So many things have to happen. Kids have to want it. Practice hard. Not get hurt. Preparation and game planning. Team has to jell. So many things… Kirby had done an outstanding job.
Just make it to the playoffs…the team that's 1) The healthiest and 2) Playing their best football at that point will probably at least make it to the Championship game as long as they Seed the teams according to the final CFP rankings. Last season's CFP seedings were bad.
Beyond that on the next iteration of the playoffs…Give the Top (4) ranked teams a BYE or at least a HOME field advantage in their own stadium for their first game.
Perhaps a UGA vs Texas schedule comparison would be more telling. By the time playoff started, the only competition UT had faced resulted in a couple of ***-kickings from the Dawgs defense!
Kirby will also let us know when things are headed in the wrong direction or if a wheel is in danger of coming off. He's never been one to create a false expectation or feed you a sob story. He tells it...pretty much…like it is.
As long as they hang around the top ten every year.…and, "have a shot" at the end of the year, of bringing home the Trophy.....why would ANY fan have an issue?
Lol...does anybody really believe that winning a Natty every year, is an attainable goal?. Nope. So, what are we talkin' about?
The Standard....is The Standard. The ingredients may change…but, the recipe doesn't. The Stew may taste a little different from batch to batch, depending on the quality of ingredients....but, it always tastes good, in December. After the flavors have had time to meld and come together.
To ride that analogy to the point....Kirby is the best Chef in College Football.
Go Dawgs!
