Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Kirby Smart: Contracts needed, but blur line between employee and student athlete

Smart, appearing on Birminghamâs Rick Burgess show while at the Regions Tradition golf tournament last month, provided insight into his thoughts on how student-athletes could be managed amid a landscape of NIL deals open transfer portals amounting to unrestricted free agency.

“Are they (college players) employees? Are they student athletes?” Smart said. “I think people want to argue one side when it favors this side, right, and argue the other side when it favors that side…..They're Student Athletes and I can't believe they aren't required to sign binding contracts in order to receive NIL money…..a contract that would specify money to be paid, behaviors expected to remain in good standing, penalties when good behavior standards aren't met, list of approved sponsors the SA could enter into a contractual relationship….ie: no alcohol, tobacco, drugs or **** bars, a defined period of time before entering the TP….and any other consideration beneficial to the University, Program and student.
Yeah, good luck with that
I agree.the older players who have put numerous hours, and sweat into the program over 2 , 3+ years should be compensated more than an unproven 17-18 year old kid straight out of high school.
If we lived in a common sense world, older guys, the veterans, would make more. However, I think we can all agree, common sense left the station years ago. Not only in college athletics but life in general! Go Dawgs!
I know it’s more money now but imagine a time when any alleged money was paid tax free .
