The Margarita Doesn’t Taste the Same Without Jimmy
The wife and I were sitting on a friend's boat anchored at Frying Pan Shoals, last weekend, sipping on margaritas and the conversation turned to to Jimmy Buffett.
There’s something about a margarita that’s more than just lime and tequila—it’s a mood, a memory, a melody. And for those of us Parrotheads who grew up with Jimmy as the soundtrack to our sandy, sun-drenched days, that salted rim carries more than lime juice. It carries him.
Jimmy made the margarita more than a cocktail. He made it a lifestyle. He gave it a soundtrack, a story, a soul. Without him, the lime tastes a little flatter, the salt a bit less sweet. He wasn’t just singing about wasting away—he was reminding us how to make the most of the moment, with a wink and a steel drum.
Now, when we raise our glasses, let's raise them a little higher. For the man who taught us that leisure is an art, that flip-flops belong in boardrooms, and that sometimes, the most profound wisdom comes with a side of guac.
The margarita may never taste quite the same again—but every time we drink one, we’ll hear him laughing in the breeze.
Remember, it's always 5 o'clock in Margaritaville.
Cheers, Jimmy - life and margaritas are not the same without you.
PS Wouldn't a Buffet concert (Parrothead convention) have been perfect between the hedges?
