“Number one thing we need to do better in run defense, OK, is tackle better,” Schumann said.
This is definitely an area that could pay dividends if they are able to show significant improvement over last year. It gets the defense off the field faster with optimal field position, and gives the Dawgs' offense more time with the ball to control the game and force the opponents defense to deal with fatigue. I believe Smart and Schumann have worked hard to find the right formula for improving techniques while at the same time limiting the exposure to injuries. We know the injury list is significantly shorter compared to recent years, so we will know soon enough if the tackling technique is at the UGA standard or not.
GO DAWGS!
Marshall and Peay are getting paid good money to come and be UGA's tackling dummies. I believe Kirby will have it straight before they go to Junior and Lu Lu's house.
Yeah, when people started making a big deal about Coach Boom not being on the roster, this is exactly what I thought of!
I have been having the same thought this off season wondering if Muschamp's absence last season had something to do with the failure of the D to play up to the UGA standard.
Something about an older, more experienced coach imparting his wisdom that makes a young player listen and absorb a little better.
Schumann doesn't seem to carry that same currency. Another defensive performance in '25 like '24 and Schumann will be off the short list for HC opportunities within the P-3 in '26.
