Spurrier won the Heisman because of Carlos Alvarez the best wide receiver to ever play at the University of Florida.

What’s wrong with those QB stats comparisons? The one with more passes, completions, completion percentage and national championships doesn’t have a heisman trophy.
However, I’d rather have the 2 national championships.

The 1996 Heisman race was an example of how the trend had become "give the award to the best QB on the best team" award.

57% completion percentage for an upper classman QB on a stacked roster is just kinda bad, especially on an offense like Spurrier's that does a lot of short to medium yard passes (and, honestly, this is illustrated by the fact that the 57.8% in 1996 was the lowest completion rate of his 4-year college career). Jake Plummer was one of the other finalists, and he also had a 57% completion rate. Neither of these guys were in the top-20 of completion percentage in 1996.

I did some digging around, and Steve Sarkisian in 1996 had better stats than Wuerffel or Plummer, but, he played for BYU in the WAC, so wasn't given any consideration.

And, the other finalist in 1996 was a beast: Troy Davis who ran for 2185 yards and 21 TD. But, he wasn't a QB.

I may be wrong but, I think this last game with the Rams is gonna jumpstart Stetson's career. Watching him in 2021 and 2022, you could tell as the season progressed and we kept winning, his confidence grew and grew and he and all those great players around him became an unstoppable force. I remember in one game after (I think)throwing a touchdown pass, the Camera was on him running down the field toward the end zone—he turned toward the camera, grinning like a possum, and did a "drop the mic moment"—I remember thinking to myself, this dude "knows" he's gonna win every game.

Great that the "Evil Genius" cleared the air and that SBIV is finally getting the credit he so truly deserves.

If you look at it objectively, his leadership and accomplishments on the field make him the greatest UGA player in our football program's history. A lot of people will not admit it due to his recruitment. If he had been a 5-star HS recruit instead of a walk-on, virtually everyone would agree he is the Greatest Bulldog in history. Funny how that so biases so many minds.

THat Fla team had to be one of the most loaded receiver offenses ever! ANd WEuffel couldn't get 60 %? That should of been a red flag to the NFL.

For those arguing about the Heisman going to the QB with the best stats, I would say that leadership should be probably the biggest tiebreaker. Leadership is intangible and impossible to really quantify. Bennett has this trait in spades.

I don't care that the QB is a Heisman contender when the winner of that trophy hasn't always won a Natty!
If you're throwing for 350 yds a game - it means your defense is probably getting run off the field and/or you're just running up the score on inferior opponents. Don't care…

Cant disagree with Spurrier on that subject..GoDAWGS!

That's why, the stats that some people get their minds wrapped around.…blind em to reality a lot of times. Stats only go so-far in the analysis game. They are just a fun tool.

IMO...you can watch a player, play within his Team's system, and get a better idea of what he can do.

Bennett is a "Ballplayer"....Which is why "The Ole Ball Coach", likes him. He knows how statistics work. Lol

You cannot ignore the elephant in the room. SBIV had the most talent around him (O and D) than any other QB in UGA history. QB success is directly proportional to surrounding talent.

That being said, he IS probably the best CFB QB in UGA history (not exactly known as QBU). I won't get into the "why" he is but besides talent on the team, 6 years of CFB experience is definitely a plus.

But it is also safe to say that SBIV was probably better than any QB in FU history (including Mr. Mouth From The South) with the exception of Tebow.

From a leadership standpoint and delivering in the big moments, the ol’bourbon coach is spot on about SB4.

Some baseball greats in regular season crumbled on the biggest of stages. Greg Maddux for all his greatness during regular season wasn't good in the playoffs. In fact he had a losing record. 11-14. Some people just have that dog in them and play even better on the biggest stage. SB was(is?) that way. Tebow's and Bennet's passing stats are very comparable, but Tebow was a more prolific runner and scored many TD's running. A 6'3" 235 4.7 40 guy who was a runaway train!

SB was certainly a good runner, but he didn't run as often as Tebow(which was a good thing ) health wise!

Had SB been an extrovert like Tebow he would have been more highly celebrated and recognized than he was outside of the state of GA.
