How Georgia football schedule could look with the SECâs new 9-game model in 2026

ATHENS â Georgia football fans figure to have new travels ahead sooner than later with the SECâs decision to move to a nine-game league schedule.
Comments
"Georgia’s border-state rivalry with Tennessee, played annually since the league went to divisional play in 1992 seems the most likely to be interrupted by the new scheduling model."
I would much rather keep the Tennessee game and not the Kentucky game as one of the three annual opponents. UK will likely be searching for a new head coach after this season, and it will never bring the same level of excitement for DawgNation. I never get tired of seeing those Tennessee fans stick their foot in their mouth every season!
GO DAWGS!
I'd like to see people in the know with each of the teams in the conference start discussing ideas for the three permanent opponents for each team. Interested to see how it all evens out.
I really hope the Louisville game isn't the one that gets dropped next year. I've been really looking forward to a road trip there. Churchill Downs, bourbon, Louisville Slugger, Muhammad Ali Center, Frederick Law Olmsted's parks… did I mention bourbon?
100%. But the issue may be TN. They would have Bama, Vandy and KY. I think.
The issue may be that UGA would then have TN, FU and AU on the annual schedule. 3 traditional CFB powers. FU and AU are currently sleeping giants that could be on an elite level overnight with the right coach. Urban Meyer to AU?Remember TN was #1 as recently as 11/5/22.
That would not be equitable with, say, TN who would have AL, GA and Vandy. It may get even more pronounced with other examples such as MO, Ark, KY, etc.
UGA may lose AU (for AU's sake). AU having AL, GA and FU(?) every year would be a killer.
Definitely would welcome playing the Aggies, Sooners, and Bayou Bengals sooner rather than later. They all need to be on our schedule within the next couple of years.
I read another article that said the 3 permanent teams list from 2023 might be out of date. There are two reasons I don’t want tenn as a permanent opponent: 1. That gaudy orange. 2. That sorry mind numbing fight song. 🤪
Whatever the series you can bet Georgia will always be the visitor first .
I could also see SC as one of the Dog's 3. My major concern is that Tenn. will have Vandy and UK as 2 of their 3 and I can't see Bama willing to take on LSU, AU, and Tenn every year. Vandy shouldn't be anybodies permanent opponent. There's definitely going to be an imbalance in quality in this system but it seems to be the best solution for the time being.
I would rather UGA play Tenn as the 3d permanent opponent. If the SEC doesn't see it that way, I would rather it be South Carolina than Kentucky.
I think it had to be Kentucky so we have one guaranteed win from our three. Also, the Louisville game is probably the one that gets dropped because we already have one ACC team on the schedule (Tech) so we wouldn’t want 11 power conference teams on the schedule when everyone else is playing 10.
