Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

20 years of a fanâs thoughts on UGA as the Junkyard Blawg moves on

As the copy desk chief of The Atlanta Journal, I spent most of that early morning working on our storm coverage for what was then the cityâs afternoon newspaper.

Thanks Mr. Bill King, sir!
You and I have breathed some of the same air these many years, and I have truly enjoyed your insight as to all things Dawgs having followed your articles since the beginning (even though i only became a DawgNation member in 2021).
I grew up a Tech Fan (Dad graduated in Industrial Engineering at Tech) and I sold peanuts and Cokes at the Tech home games like you did for the Dawgs! It all changed when i visited UGA and some friends for a game (can't remember the opponent) as a Tech student in 1975, and, as a tribute to your brother, it was the Redcoat Band, running out on the field before the game, that drove home to me what it meant to be a college football fan and a Dawg fan!
I have never looked back! I changed majors and enrolled in UGA the next fall just in time to watch one of the greatest games I ever saw when the Dawgs crushed Bama and the Bear 21-0 between the hedges in 1976! Have seen many great games since of course (even lived through Coach Dooley's only losing season, Ugh!) and, like you, have raised my family to be Dawg fans from birth! Two of my children have graduated from UGA and my son and his wife met as drum majors for the Redcoat Band…..in fact he asked her to marry him at the 50-yard line before a Dawg game! Anyone who knows me knows my passion for the Dawgs!
So very sorry to hear of the loss of your brother so recently. Just know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers and I am sure of many others as well!
Good Luck in the next phase of your Blawg! Will continue to read and enjoy your unique insight into the Dawg nation!
And to paraphrase the great Harvey Penick….." if you are a Dawg Fan then you will always be my friend"!!
Go Dawgs!
Thanks, Bdw3184 !
Thanks for the memories Bill! It's always been great to read your Blawg.
So sorry to hear about Jon's passing. My condolences and thoughts are with you.
Best of luck on your new site! I will have to come visit.
Thanks, MontanaDawg! And please do follow the Blawg to the new site.
Bill, I was beyond sad when I read your brother's obituary, and realized who it was. My deepest condolences to the Family 🙏
Bill,
You do a superlative job of helping me conjure my own memories of being a UGA student and well beyond when I came back to Athens and was in charge of Sanford Stadium medical support for about 30 years. I share the sudden and tragic loss of a brother after surgery when things were looking good in 2011. Thank you so much for the memories and insight only a great DAWG with journalistic genius can provide. I will visit you at your new site.
I will definitely be following you on the new site Bill. I have immensely enjoyed every article I've read here posted by you, comes from the perspective of a true fan, and also from the eyes of a proud UGA graduate. That view on things from you in every article about UGA, keeps me hanging on until your next article, which is always as good or better than the previous..Keep up the GREAT work!
Thanks, 1SICemDAWGS1! I really appreciate your support.
Much appreciated, bogarttad!
It's always been great to read your Blawg/DawgNation posts. As soon as I see your name on the DawgNation post, I immediately read it. You have a way of capturing what it is to be a DAWG fan. I've shared many of them with my family and friends.
Like you, I'm a DAWG through and through and so is my family. My immediate family proudly possess nine degrees from UGA. I finally got my youngest through her master degree this past spring. I hold three (the most) and remind my family about being the smartest in the family as a result. Jokingly, of course.
I'm so sorry to hear about Jon's passing (DGD). I hope you get to some games this year between the hedges, nothing like it. I'm really looking forward to making my way over to Athens for the first game.
I will definitely check out your new site. Thanks!!
Thanks, MACDAWG!
As a kid who grew up selling programs in the 70's and going to UGA football camps, I've always appreciated your storytelling and unique knack for connecting past and future. Fond memories. I had moments with both Erk and Vince at those camps that were one on one. I got smacked in the eye and Erk himself escorted me to the training room to get ice. I held his cigar while he filled up the bag. How cool is that? So very sorry about your brother. Let the memories carry you in your grief. I will follow your new endeavor and look forward to reading the gems you always come up with. Thank you Bill.
Thank you, zonadawg61!
Always enjoy Bill's posts. His love of the Dawgs, the university, the city and the state always comes through. I look forward to checking out the new site. Best of luck, Bill! Go Dawgs!!
Thanks, BoydCrowder! Hope to hear from you at the new site.
