Final grades from Georgia football loss to Alabama: âWe got to do a better job as coachesâ

Comments
I hate to say it, but Elllis Robinson is the new Kelee and Frazier needs to be 4th string RB, they are just hot garbage man. Ellis the #2 overall recruit, redshirted a year and this is the result? Straight doo doo! Put them at the bottom of the depth chart
Dawgs could easily be sitting here at 2-2. We were resilient, but lucky as heck to win that game against the Vols.
Nothing good at all from yesterday other than the play of McCray and Bowens.
Inexperience is killing us. But, that's the way it will be from now on in college football. The spoils of experienced talent are being shifted around and spread out around the country. We may have the best inexperienced roster in the country, but that didn't help yesterday. That Inexperience showed up in poor execution on both sides of the ball and bone-headed plays.
Questionable coaching and play calling was certainly a factor, but like I keep saying, give me experience over talent most of the time. Experience will win you more games than inexperienced better talent.
They forgot to rate coaching. Er, uh, that would be an F. Kirby Smart has gone from a treasure to a liability. Bama resides in his head, and his lack of confidence toward them results in unwise coaching decisions every time we play them. His leadership is flawed as he places his personal friendship with his incompetent coordinators over the team's success. He has grown to be arrogant and fearless in believing that he is so good he is untouchable. The coaches' payroll is obscene. These elite players deserve elite coaches. In effect, Smart is now Dabo 2.0. Too stubborn to change for the good of the program. I would trade Alabama's coaching staff for Georgia's in a heartbeat. The Bama staff is an order of magnitude more competent than Bobo, Schumann, and their buddy assistants. Our Natty is now four years old. Last night we showed the nation on national TV that we are no longer elite becuase our coaches are not elite. The bottom line is that Kirby Smart is not indispensable. The athletic director and university president need to direct him to make significant coaching changes or else pack up his own bag. The UGA coaching staff has turned into a bunch of good ole buddies with a whole lot of salary money without the eye of the tiger. We should demand better rather than excuses and obfuscation. It was sickening to watch Bama take over our house after the game last night. Sickening. This is not OK.
Pass rush does have to get home, but we had some penetration in the middle that got close several times. The left guard (I believe), or maybe tackle, for the crimson team was tackling our interior rush basically all night. There were back to back blatant no calls in the end zone. The play in the red zone that we got called for defensive hold, there was another one - again on the left side. Every one of them happened right in front of the white hat. And yes, there’s holding on every play - I get it. But these were egregious. In the end, we shrank in big moments and they did just enough to float through.
Some of the comments here and other places are absolute evidence of folks that need to take a deep breath and stop typing. To state that Kirby is a liability and has been passed by is indicative of hysteria. It definitely was a tough loss with at least one head scratcher of a coaching decision on 4th down, but this game was Georgia’s to have. A few executional problems and one costly turnover were the difference and there are a whole bunch of games ahead.
I do believe Georgia coaches were out schemed by Bama, and hopefully there will be learnings from that. I don’t get the sense that Georgia coaches develop an adequately customized scheme for each opponent. Defense looked lost way too many times last night and that tells you there were way too many plays and alignments that seemed to surprise the DAWGS.
Better coaching and tighter execution is needed and hopefully we see these improved next week. Go DAWGS!
Nothing that a new OC, DC and a lot more money can't fix—too many early commits walking away for more money.
FYI. 9 teams have beaten Alabama since UGA did: Tennessee, LSU, Texas, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Michigan, FSU. In this time frame, UGA is 0-3 vs Bama.
"I would trade Alabama's coaching staff for Georgia's in a heartbeat."
Why not just make it easy on yourself and trade teams you follow?? No need to be miserable, life is short.
I don’t think Kirby is a liability, quite to the contrary. He is the most successful HC ever to be HC at UGA. However, several years after winning back to back Natties, there are cracks in the armor.
The decision to go for it instead of kicking a field goal to tie the game was as poor a decision as you will ever see made by a head coach.
Moreover, year after year, Georgia receiving targets can’t seem to catch the ball. Something has to be done. This has gone on for too long to be an issue with individual players. It has to be a coaching failure at this point.
Another ‘hot take’, I think it is time to move on from Nate Frazier. His ongoing ball security issues mean he shouldn’t be first string on a team like Georgia, especially not when we have other gifted players who can tote the rock.
Very disappointed in the coaching overall last night. Coaches’ grade: D
I used to dread hearing the news that a Kirby assistant coach landed a HC job. Now, I can’t wait for some of these assistants to get jobs elsewhere. I know they love Georgia, but so did Willie Martinez….
We have a coaching problem, not a talent problem. The result last night is on the coaches, not the players. Offensively, we are one-dimensional and very predictable. Bobo never gets the defense spread out, ever. Zero TE presence. Defensively, we give QB's enough time to make sandwiches. Opposing OC's seem to spread us out at will and pick the secondary apart. Kirby's decision to not attempt a FG to tie the game was the worst decision I've ever seen him make. Bobo's play call made it look even worse. Bobo and Schuman have had more than enough time to get the offense and defense up to speed and they have not. Kirby has some hard decisions in front of him. If he doesn't make them the AD will make them for him. Just my observation.
Georgia got outcoached and out schemed. A flare pass to the right side where we have two freshmen starters who got taught what penetration is? IMO—a terrible call to the wrong back to the wrong side. A B- for the defensive line? That is correct for running plays, but they never laid a hand on Simpson. He had all the time he needed to throw to some very open receivers. Speaking for myself(I'm sure all of you feel the same way)this is a hugely disappointing loss.
Tight Ends grade should be a N/A. What has happened to our TE production?
