“It was just being efficient,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after the Auburn game. “That’s who we are. We’re a 5,7,8,4,5,7,8. That’s why we have 17-play drives. We have a coaching staff that puts together a good plan and go operate it. We’re just not a dynamic, dynamic offense right now in terms of vertical speed and throwing the ball downfield.”

Now, if we can get Bobo on board.

Conner, we scored a TD on our 1st drive last season at Ole Miss, and it turned out to be the only TD. But I understand your logic of needing to start fast.

Our offense is about to get rolling I think/hope.

Gunner is like Novocain: just give him time and he always works and the outcome is usually good.

"I just need to cut loose". I wonder what CKS has to say about that. Seems he has deliberately kept GS on a short leash to minimize his turnover possibilities. And it has worked. Just like he did with SBIV, especially in the beginning. If you think CKS gave GS an ear full after the TD vs AU w/1:53 left wait until GS "cut's loose" a couple of forced throws that turn into INTs.

Clearly CKS's plan for GS to begin his starting career is to be a game manager that minimizes mistakes. I don't think "cutting it loose" is a big part of the game plan. I do think that by being a game manager and playing conservatively, GS's negative plays have been minimized. But conservative play has also allowed the defense to crowd the LOS. They know that most plays (so far) have been runs or short pass plays.

It seems, with CKS, that expanding the offense comes with earning trust in the QB decision making and being able to consistently make the right reads and execute the plays called. It has been and will continue to be the process for CKS.

Eastmandawg, I agree with you - I don't think people realize how bad the O line is. Missing assignments like every other play or every third play. Not only are they young and not stout, they are trying to learn on the fly. Opposing defenses are moving and mixing, reeking havoc. Go watch the film guy on youtube talk specifically about it. To have only lost one game is amazing. They are young. Even Bobo isn't even a 2nd year center, since he only played half a year at best. He's basically still in his first year.

I actually liked what Kirby said, because it sums up exactly where we are right now — stuck between that old-school, grind-it-out identity that’s made us dominant and the modern need to be more explosive on offense.

He’s not wrong. Explosives, no turnovers, and the middle eight really are the biggest indicators of who wins games. I like that Kirby gets the analytics side but still refuses to give up our physical edge. That toughness is what separates Georgia from most teams, and I don’t want to lose it.

That said, when he says, “we want to be more explosive,” I just wish he’d tell us how. We’ve all seen this offense bog down when we play too safe or can’t hit the deep shots. Finding the balance between that physical style and real explosiveness is going to be the key.

Right now, I feel good, not great, about where we are — elite defense potential, monster lines, tons of talent everywhere. But if we want to stay ahead of Bama, Texas, and Ohio State, we’ve got to start creating more big plays and owning those middle-eight minutes. Kirby knows it — now it’s about actually doing it, not just talking about it.

Bobo was humilated last week, so he should call a better game against Ole Miss.

The problem is that we have a week off before Florida and I can promise you that we will look absolutely awful (rusty, slow, unprepared, lost) in the first half against Florida.

I would like a faster start, not necessarily a fast start, each time…just be consistent. Want to grind? Grind for 4 quarters. Play the game to your ability each quarter. Kirby says the same thing.
