How Josh Horton emerged as Georgiaâs most impactful defensive transfer

The Langston Hughes pipeline to Athens is paying off..GoDAWGS!
Hortons blocked pass was BIG and sealed the deal…..
However, Mcloud's batted down pass earlier was just as BIG as it set up UGAs first stop of the day and Miss' first punt of the day.
They have to find a guy who can pressure the QB in the middle of the defense to have a chance to compete for the SEC or a CFP spot. Teams with good, not great, QBs are destroying this defense because the Dawgs can't get pressure on the QB. The Dawgs did what they had to do to close that game, get pressure on Chambliss. There's a reason they call guys who sack the QB "closers", because that's what they do - close games.
This is great to hear about Horton…the Dawgs need him on the field more. I remember a critical play early in the game when Chambliss evaded Cole in a 3rd down blitz and used his legs to convert. I get this will happen from time to time, but it seems the Dawgs defense rarely gets home, especially early in the game, when they have QBs cornered. That is an absurd stat about this being the only game under CKS without a TFL. From what I understood going into the game, the DL only had 6 TFL on the season.
Horton needs to play more, especially in passing situations. Yes, I have a keen grasp of the obvious. But sometimes I wonder if our coaches have that same grasp. On this chat, many have said for weeks that we need to use our tight ends more. We finally do it in the 7th game of the season and now Coach Bobo is genius. He could have been a genius a lot sooner imo.
We have tried to use our TE all year. Gunner has just started to trust what he is seeing and let the ball fly. He has really improved. As for Horton teams have made an emphasis not to allow us to sub as often as we like. This game would have been a blow out if guys just made the plays in front of them. A missed sack, 3 dpi, and 2 plays with missed tackles. All separate plays that would have resulted in at least 3 different stops and the defense off the field. The team is getting there it is young and where it is not young it is very inexperienced with guys playing zero or so little snaps that it was meaningless prior to the year. A lot of upside to what we are seeing if they can just finish and continue to improve. The results have been frustrating but the film when looked at closely shows they are not far off. Just need all 11 to execute at once and to make the play when they have the opportunity. I do think we will see more of Horton as he has been trending up. Very exciting time as the team gains more experience each week. At any time 6/11 guys on defense prior to this year had not played any ot enough snaps to be meaningful. Its a lot of chances for someone to mess up and not the 1st all pro nfl talent at experienced guys to cover up their mistakes. Will be interesting to see if they can execute more consistently moving forward like they have late in games.
As always, I have to ask (looking at the replays): what does it take to get a holding call on the O-line against us? I'd be an offensive genius, like Lane, if my OTs are allowed to tackle pass rushers.
What is going on with SEC officiating?
