    One word on improvement, DEFENSE

Quoting Kirby:”Experience it. I mean, how does a quarterback get better at playing quarterback? It ain’t just through practice. It’s through the real live reps.”
OK as I’ve said many times I’m not a coach, I’m not a football expert or guru just a typical recliner chair fan. But I basically said what Kirby said right there Many times this season. For Me I was referencing Gunner. Practice is certainly very helpful but it’s not superior to Real Game experience.

Actually to This Point ( J don’t know the future I Hope he continues to have success) Gunner has done quite well. Only 1 INT in seven games. Yes I know our Dawgs haven’t faced a lights out Defense. But Gunner has had to change allot of his basic nature.

What I mean by that is he ran the ball Allot more in HS. Now Kirby and Bobo want him to stay in the pocket. So I’m sure that was/is a challenge for him. He’s got a Great team to support him and I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you that. But I’m proud of the young man. I hope we will Continue to win for our Dawgs as a team and for Gunner as a person. .Still allot of tough games to be played and that’s just the regular season !!

Groom them Dawgs up in this off time Kirby then let them Big Dawgs loose to Eat !!

My greatest desire for improvement is secondary play, play with attitude, dare them to throw it to your man. In other words quit playing scared, hacking, grabbing and pushing and just cover your man and break on the ball. They will win some but you can't make it easy for them.

Man, if we have "really good cover guys," as Kirby claims, the really awful cover guys must be dead. I hope this is just Kirby being Kirby, where when a player or players are obviously struggling and everyone is on them, Kirby comes to their defense. And when everyone is praising a player, Kirby is quick to point out their mistakes and oversights so as not to give them the big head. I hope that's what is going on with his description of the secondary but it is quite clear, those kids are not playing well at all. And while I do believe him when he said that it's not all on the secondary, I do think they could do a lot better.
