All these college coach vacancy's and no one mentions Georgia's D Coordinator. I think Kirby needs to bring in some help, some young coaching talent.

While Lanning was clearly creative, I'm just not sure Schumann is, or at least as much as may be needed with this still-young D. Wouldn't it be ironic if the guy that is being asked to get "more creative" vs. UF is actually there next season...? 🤔😳🤣

The offense is not good enough either.

The article you linked is very interesting, a quick read, but very much worth reading. It describes Schumann's defense (this season I think) as loose and lazy, but also speaks of him as a very solid football guy who'd make an excellent head coach for the University of West Gainesville. I'm not anti-Schumann by any means - Kirby doesn't suffer losers gladly - but I also tend to think Schumann's counterpart(ner) co-coordinator was the creative mind on that little team.

Like David Pollack, I'm very open to being proven wrong on Saturday. Perhaps what we saw in the last third of the Ole Miss game was a harbinger. We can hope, right?

    Go, Dawgs!

George Meade was a terrible head general of union forces in the civil war, but under US Grant, he was fantastic. Grant wrote a lot of wonderful things about him. My point is, sometimes you have to get the right people in the right places to win at a high level. Schumann may be lacking coaching help around him. He may be missing a coach boom or a tactician. Kirby has added coaching talent to the offensive side, and it looks like it's helping Bobo. I can't help but think that he should do the same for Schumann.

Oh Yeah !! You sure got that right !! David’s motor was nonstop when he playing !! He never let up. Always bringing it. I know he’s made some comments over the years that has ruffled the fur of some Dawgs fans. But he believes what he says and sticks by what he says. Right or wrong he Is and will Always be a DGD in my book !!

If I see Shu go to that dreaded 3 man rush on 3rd and 12 ever again, he should be escorted out of the stadium. That's all I got to say about that!

    Could be…nice comparison BTW.

At this level, I'm pretty sure it's not all creativity or knowledge of the game and I don't think it's all talent - it's a matter of the "want to" for the most part. Just beat the man in front of you, they have proven they can before. If they are pacing themselves, that is BS…put somebody in there that wants to play, every play - attitude is everything, it all starts with the DL. It's got to work before anything else does.

I can only imagine the "fire and brimstone" speeches/yelling going on at halftime. Play every play to win it - all 60, no plays off.

Football is an emotional game and players feed off it, especially defense. Figure out what motivates your players, cause someone definitely ain't reaching them until halftime. Not saying this is it, but you look at the DC on the sidelines and he is rarely emotional, more composed imo. Kirby can't do it all - but I believe this may be a big part of it…and maybe some of what you mentioned…show your displeasure & hold players responsible.

Football is not a hard game, but you certainly need alphas/leaders - and that includes on the sidelines. The DC is definitely responsible for all of this, and I am pretty sure that Kirby knows what he is dealing with.

when it's 3rd and long they're getting off the field. The 3rd and medium like 3, 5 or 8 then the qb is getting rid of the ball within 2 secs. Go back to the Alabama game and all they did was run different screens. Basically stop whining so freaking much and stop living in the past. Go Dawgs

@GoodOlDawg - “Lagway needs to feel the heat early and often to win third downs so that the Dawgs can keep our offense on the field and control the tempo of the game.”

Right on the money! In fact, imo, if we don’t pressure Lagway we lose this game. He hasn’t looked good when pressured but with time he’s pretty good. Combining no pressure with DBs playing very soft coverage is a recipe for disaster.

Also agree with @Eastmandawg on the “want to” factor. Playing good D, especially in pass rushing, is all about effort. Haven’t seen that very often this season from our DL. They need to play much more aggressively.

It sure would be nice to see the Dawg D pin back their ears and take GATA to the next level for a full sixty minutes tomorrow. There is a reason why no ADs at schools with vacant HC positions are knocking on Schumann's door. He seem too quiet and laid back to really get the squad fired up. That is an important component of being a DC: turning potential into violent kinetic energy with every player for every minute. If Kirby decides to keep Schumann, he needs to surround him with other coaches with lots of kinetic leadership energy. The players feed off of that. Any team or organization takes on the personality of its leader…

I said this last year when it was announced that Muschamp was taking a step back- he'd be missed. It's no coincidence that the Dawgs' defense became great in 2021 when Muschamp became more involved in game planning and game day adjustments, and it has fallen off since he's become less involved in the process. I'm a big KS fan, but they won't find a better DC than Muschamp. He's been DC or co-DC on 4 NC teams.
