Why Gunner Stockton is at heart of Georgiaâs College Football Playoff ranking
ATHENS â Gunner Stockton is on the minds of the College Football Playoff selection committee, as chairman Mack Rhoades acknowledged on Tuesday night.

If the CFP committee’s rankings determine the playoff, how is it logical that the AP poll chooses the highest ranked group of 5? Or did I miss where the committee stated Memphis was their choice?
For Georgia, it comes down to getting solid play out of very young talent. There were critical mistakes against Florida, on which Florida was unable to capitalize. Against a better team, UGA loses. O line is getting better. D line is young in spots, but our defensive backs continue to make huge mistakes, over and over. They need to get better now.
Though we gave a great effort in a loss, that old Bama game is coming back to bite us on the keister. We just need to continue our winning and let the chips fall where they may.
Agree, but it really shouldn’t…..
We lost by three to the fourth ranked team in the nation, holding them to 24 points, and it was early in the season……both metrics which , historically, have been beneficial!
Go Dawgs!
I agree, if the secondary does not improve, the Dawgs will more than likely be an early exit in the playoffs. For that matter they need to improve to beat Texas, that team is improving.
@Brooksie The CFP committee only releases its Top 25 teams … it does have metrics that go deeper, and the NCAA stated that Memphis was currently the highest-ranked…. the only public poll that indicates that is the AP poll. The good news is that it will all work itself out…. once the Group of Five championship games are played the CFP rankings will likely have one or two in the Top 25. There's still a lot of cannibalism left in college football. Each week, the picture should get clearer. I believe there are, technically, still 37 teams that could make the CFP field one way or another ….
First got to get by a tough game in Starkville before even thinking about TX. But we fans have the luxury of being able to do that. The thing with Arch Manning as with many QBs is getting pressure on him.
If the Dawgs or any team can really bring the heat he’ll throw INTs and/or inaccurate passes. He’s pretty decent at this point but not elite. The same for his team. BUT so far our Dawgs have not been able to bring pressure very much especially on a consistent basis.
When firing on all cylinders I believe our Offense can go toe to toe with them. It’s our Defense that concerns me the most. Like many of you my big question is Why are opposing receivers getting so deep into our secondary uncovered ? I’m no coach or expert or anything but a fan, but that’s all you have to be to see we’re getting torched To many times by rival teams.
The secondary has always been a source of extreme pride to Kirby what’s going on ? Early on you could rightfully say youth and inexperience but This deep into the season how valid is that now ? Sure hope things improve Allot from this game on. Go Dawgs !!
Rhoads, when pressed about the Irish’s lack of a high-quality win, shared more on the new committee’s philosophy.
“We refer to it as art and science, and the art is watching the teams on film and how good they are,” Rhoads said. “How physical they are up front, offensive line, defensive line play, how good are they up the middle, their quarterback play, their skill players and then certainly contemplating and looking at metrics.”
In other words, still subjective. Why don't they just come out an admit it & call that category - "eyes on the set". Nothing has changed in CF from the old system where you just had two teams at the end…just more teams.

@Eastmandawg Go Navy beat Notre Dame !! Navy was undefeated until last Sat. when they got slaughtered by North Texas. It’s not impossible that they could beat ND though highly improbable. Hey maybe with a good bounce here and there a few good things go their way. One can hope !!
The sports writer experts are bound and determined to plug ND in Every year whether they deserve to be or not. They go by “pretty looks” rather than Earning it. Why I wish Kirby would have let Gunner score verses the mud lizards. I get His reasons why, but these 🤡 go by number of points More so than strength of schedule !!
Looks like I hurt a Notre Dame fan’s feelings on here. 🤣
