College Football Playoff rankings, bracket for Week 13 have Georgia football at No. 4
College Football Playoff rankings, bracket for Week 13 have Georgia football at No. 4
Georgia came in at No. 4 in this weekâs rankings, up one spot from its ranking last week. Georgia picked up a convincing 35-10 win over the previously No. 10 Texas Longhorns.
Comments
That bites..,seed 5, historic first round game at home in Athens please.
”But Georgia needs a Texas A&M loss, an Alabama loss, or a series of results that would give Georgia a superior conference opponent winning percentage in the event of a three or four-team tiebreaker.”
Once again, Conner, read the rules before you write these. There’s no scenario other than Alabama or TAMU loss that can put us in the CG. What “series of results” are you referring to?
Don't see a scenerio where we can finish 5. If we win out we'll probably end up 3rd and if we lose to GT we'll drop more than one place.
@PeterA Go over to Dawn of the Dawg and the scenarios are spelled out. Look for the headline: 3 Murky SEC tiebreakers that would send Georgia to the SEC Championship game. Connor was right.
Perhaps if the Dawgs play in the SECCG and lose, they could drop to the 5 spot? Otherwise, I'd agree it is very unlikely.
The thing is, only MAYBE 4 of those 12 have any real chance of winning the bcs...Indiana ain't one of the four
For seccg, assuming bama and ole miss hold course and atm doesn’t lose both games, the tie breaker in a 3/4 way tie will come down to, I think, the fifth level, the overall sec records of each teams’ opponents. Ole miss and atm will both be out as their opponents’ records are well below bama and uga. Take vandy for example. If they beat ky this weekend it hurts us; if they lose it hurts bama. The vandy/tenn game next week has the same effect.
I have mixed feelings about this. An SEC Championship is nice—real nice; however, the risk/reward may not be worth it this year. Last year the SEC Championship was won but at what price? Loss of starting QB, loss of starting punter, a plethora of nagging injuries to key offensive and defensive personnel which led to the loss to Notre Dame. Looking at the big picture, the National Championship is more prestigious than the SEC Championship. IMO we should just win out, left Bama and A & M beat each other up in the championship, and enjoy a first round bye and lots of time to heal up. It just comes down to risk/reward. I'll take the National Championship for a reward…
By the end of the season, we'll have played five different teams on this list.
6th 7th or 8th gets home field game also. One more loss won’t drop us past 8th. But yeah, highly unlikely we hist thus year
I have mixed feelings, too.
If we get to the SEC Championship game we all want to win it + we want no injuries + we don't want to get too beat up.
I'm not sure, and suppose no one else is either, what happens to the rankings of teams which lose their conference championship game. I'd assume it depends somewhat on whether it's a close game and they barely lose as opposed to a blowout loss.
A worse case scenario would be we get to the SEC Championship Game (somehow) and suffer both a bad loss and a bunch of injuries and are beaten up in the process.
All that said, we may or may not participate in the SEC Championship Game. I think the SECCG is likely to feather aTm and Alabama; of course either or both could lose, and maybe one or both will.
It could be we end up playing Ole Miss in the SEC Championship Game. I don't prefer a championship game where Ole Miss seeks revenge against us. I'd prefer for us to have a revenge game against Alabama.
In any case, none of this is within the control of Georgia or any Georgia fan.
Go, Dawgs!
A worse case scenario
THE worst case scenario would be for us to lose to GT, get in the SECG because of either AL or atm losing, and then we are losers in the SECG.
That would make us 10-3 and I hope to God that it doesn't work out that way! What would the committee do then…I shudder to think!
On a brighter note, I think we will wreck Tech! So no worries!
Go Dawgs!
You stated very eloquently the exact same feelings I have. Yeah an SECCG trophy is nice, real nice. But a National Title is much better. The first word says it all “ National”. If you asked people CFB wide on a national basis in say July of 2026 who won the SECCG there’d probably be quite a few that’d have to look it up as they don’t follow the SEC like we do. But CFB fans in general Will know who won the National Title.
Plus the prestige is much higher, there’s TV commercials about the National Title winner shown on a national basis. But the SECCG maybe if any a few local mentions on TV after the fact. So it’s a pretty easy choice for me the National Title.
Now if we want the sweetest victory of all that would be to play and beat Bama in the National Championship. Heck they’d have to have sky hooks to get Dawgs fans down off cloud nine !! 🤣
So…. The Committee ranks the team that beat SC by 1 point ahead of the team that beat Texas by 25 points. Need more be said about how ridiculous the rankings are?
