"Stockton, Puglisi and Montgomery were not 5-star mega recruits coming out of high school. What they all had in common was that they wanted to come play for Georgia."……they also wanted to play for a yearly championship contender, a coaching staff/HC that aren't going to jump ship at the flash of dollar signs….I'm thinkin Clarke Lea????, an O-line that will protect and provide time to check down, and a team will multiple game breaking TE's & RW's & RB's…..oh, did I mention a coaching staff that will not only develop and perfect GOD given talents but expand the QB''s skill base opening the door to first round draft opportunities…I guess we'll see???
long way off, but I’ll be interested to see what gunner does for next year, come back or move on.
I’m not worried about Jared Curtis because I think he’s a man of his word. Even when he de-committed he did it in a classy way and told Kirby he’d feel guilty visiting other schools while committed. If he bails on us at the last minute I’ll eat my words and have a totally different perspective on his character which I think is outstanding. On a different note, we really haven’t been hurt by losing 5-star QBs like: Eason, Vandergriff, Fields and Raiola. We may not have gotten the Curtis’ commitment if Raiola had signed with UGA. As for Fields, (I’ve asked this question before), name a single game we lost that we would have won if Fields had stayed. Go Dawgs!!!
@GtheGreek I would add to that list the likely opportunity to play in up-to 16 games per year, as UGA is a likely playoff contender every year for the foreseeable future. We have witnessed how much value each game brings to the development of these players by watching the improvement that has been made since the beginning of the season. Every game that these guys get to play in can make a difference. Even if Raiola had remained healthy, he was only going to play 13 games including a bowl game and then watch the playoffs with the rest of us.
GO DAWGS!
I predict Gunner will be back next year no matter what. He can use another season to improve his draft stock and get more seasoned as a QB. If so, I think we lose at least one QB to the portal.
“That limited Stockton, then Georgia’s backup quarterback, to just 4 pass attempts in the 59-21 win. More reps likely would’ve helped Stockton when he faced Texas and Notre Dame.”
What a crock pot full of hyperbole this writer can come up with…so getting more reps against UMass vs the daily reps Gunner got against our 1s and 2s would have helped against Tex and ND? Sure Conor, you have the keyboard, let’s go with that…someone should be writing for the National Enquirer…
I don't see Vandy beating UGA for Curtis, but you never know what they're floating to him. Also have to keep an eye out for other schools with large bags that try to swoop in at the last minute (e.g. Texas, etc.). Verbals don't mean much anymore in the NIL era. We'll only know for sure on signing day.
Dawgs will be fine either way.
"Gunner Stockton — who outplayed Raiola this season". Really? Stat's show DR with a higher completion %, more passing TD/game and the same passing yards /game. Imagine what DR could do with UGA talent around him. CR pushing his Dawgnation bias again.
Saw an interesting note about Buford 3* QB Dayton Raiola this week. Seems he de-committed from Nebraska this week 2 weeks before signing day. Seems that with Dylan getting hurt that he'll probably need to spend another year at NE before hitting the NFL. That pushes the Dayton Raiola timetable back a year at NE necessitating the move to another program.
With less than 2 weeks to go before signing day it is highly unlikely that Curtis would change his commitment now. That is unless he wants to play day 1 vs developing in a title contending program.
Did Curtis already receive NIL money? If so, if he has cashed that check, then it would have to be too late to go anywhere else. Unless he is paying that money back. I thought I read somewhere that his deal was a 3 year deal. I'm sure his agent (just like every other greedy agent, that has their best interest in mind, not the players), has put an each year clause or something in it.
Any clarification would be great. Thanks, Go DAWGS.
we sometimes forget that these young men are just 17 or 18. Lots can go through the minds of young adults. There is really no wrong decision for him. If he does sign with the Dawgs AND Stockton stays one more year, a talented QB will more than likely leave. Having 3 potential starters is luxury. Adding a 4th is unheard of. As a fan, I miss the days of Fromm. Not specifically the QB, but the fact a Freshman can start and play for 3-4 years. The one and done era is tough. 2 year starters would be great.
Gunner is one of the top three QB's in the country at the moment. He could soar even higher before awards are given out. As far as our future, the kids that are watching Gunner would have to be excited. Who wouldn't want to be that guy!
"Imagine what DR could do with UGA talent around him."
Or; imagine what Gunner Stockton could do playing the Nebraska schedule instead of the 4th toughest schedule in the NCAA. I agree that DR doesn't have any talent around him and probably wouldn't have gotten sacked nearly as much with Georgia, but he's no Gunner Stockton!
Glad we "missed" out on Raiola and Manning. If we miss out on Curtis and get Wade I'm good with that. THere is talk that Wade might reclassify to the class of 2017. GIve me someone who loves being a DAWG! DIdn't realize it but there is a video of Gunner as a young boy in the Dawg jersy wanting to play at UGA just like SB.
Gunner may not put up the best stat line but who cares as long as we win with him, and we are! I heard this morning that last summer we tried to get Mateer but Ok hired his OC and Mendoza was actually in Kirby's office. all he had to do was sign and Gunner didn't flinch with his committment!
Sometimes things just have to work themselves out. Just too hard to say with certainty what if we had this guy or that guy.
