Love to have this young man but in this new environment it’s not safe to count on a player until he signs his LOI. Makes your job even harder Jeff. Trying to be Accurate with recruiting is a tough row to hoe !!
Thanks for the update, Jeff. You've couched this story very well and given us all plausible outcomes. It's appreciated. But your bottom line is that, based on your current and prior reporting, you believe Curtis still signs with Georgia. All due respect to you, but this is what you said about Raiola when the rumors about him flipping came about. You thought he would stay a Dawg. But a couple of things stand out in your story to me that make me wonder if Curtis is still headed to Athens. For one, you listed four (4) things Curtis had made clear he wanted wherever he signs. But the one thing that wasn't on that list is the one thing that Vandy offers in spades — IMMEDIATE playing time, and lots of it. If he's making the decision based solely on that (since you say it's not about money), he's gone. Which leads me to my second point: It wouldn't take very much at all for Curtis (or his representatives) to send out a quick tweet or release a short statement that just simply says something like, "100 percent Dawg," or "I'm still 100 percent committed to UGA," or, "I can't wait to wear the red and black." Would such a thing be binding? No. He could STILL flip to Vandy or even elsewhere. But I think it would tell us a lot about where his mind is in the midst of all the rumors. And I think it would say a lot about the kind of team leader he would be once he gets on campus.
This young man has clearly stated his intentions on signing with Georgia. He went to a Vandy game because Diego Pavia asked him. I'd drive to Nashville to watch Diego play. The media whips up a controversy, then expects those who they are reporting on to address the issue. Level headed people avoid that game. If there's nothing to address, there's nothing to say. Looking forward to seeing this young man in Athens!
If he signs with the DAWGS, good, welcome to Athens. If he doesnt, and flips to vandy, best of luck young man, rep your home team well. DAWGS will survive as they always have. I'd much rather have Gunner at QB next year, with a years SEC, and big game experience in his pocket, over a kid fresh out of HS that has never played 1 snap in college..GoDAWGS
I think it might be easy..give em a 50/50 chance and you're right either way lol same with the weather, a 50% chance of rain today..it may rain..it may not 🤣
I think he will sign with UGA. I'm pretty confident. He's not Raiola and it's a whole different situation. Since he is an early enrollee, I will look forward to G-Day this year to see him in action.
This is why I don’t get excited about 17-19 year olds trying to make up their minds about what college to sign with. Even when they sign, I don’t get too excited because of the transfer portal.

Lol you might actually fare better with predicting the weather than with how NIL and even the TP has transformed CFB. It’s not just our Dawgs program that gets stung by last minute changes of heart. It’s CFB wide.
With a Rare few exceptions Loyalty is just a word in CFB. But these players get a blueprint for that from these multi multi multi million $$ Coaches !! It must be nice to get paid $$ Millions when you Lose your job to “ buy out “ your contract !! With us regular folks it’s start preparing a resume, put on your prettiest walking shoes, and stop by the unemployment office as you Pray for a job opening !! But out love of the game is what made it this way so I guess I shouldn’t complain.
I just hope our Dawgs spank GT this Friday !! With Gunner Stockton leafing the way !! He doesn’t make much NIL as compared to allot of Em, but there’s not a QB I’d trade him for in CFB !! Go Dawgs !!
I whole heartedly agree !! It wouldn’t hurt these recruits to throw out a bone of sincerity once in a while. And as you stated and truthfully, sincere comments like you cited aren’t legally binding if they flip at the last minute they flip. AND later if they do flip then find out they should have stuck with the original commitment they can hit the TP and probably be ushered right in if they are That good.
I’ve wondered several times does Arch Manning secretly wish he’d have come to UGA ? Also will he hit the TP at some point ? Would Kirby and Bobo still be interested in him ? Like I said in my other comment with the exception of a rare few “ Loyalty” is just a word now. And that applies to Coaches as much if not more than players.
Can you picture the looks on people’s faces If Kiffin leaves Ole Miss and goes else where and says to the crowd: “ We’re all in this together !!” 😳
Not going to follow this story. I think it is nuts everything dealign with recruits and transfers in college football. I think the NCAA has done a poor job is regulating college football. I will follow the team and leave the rest for when it is settled. I am will not be held hostage by a high school kid. Who knows what he is thinking?
"..if Curtis wanted more money, he’d be committed to Oregon or South Carolina."
Are you implying that South Carolina made a higher offer? They have more NIL money than UGA? This is hard to believe.
SC has a plan that throws really big $ at super elite positions like QB or edge rushers. Otherwise, they are just average or below market. Per ON3.
This story is valuable in that it helps us to not go too over the top in criticism based on partial data! IMO more than just a story, it's a service to the community. Thank you for writing it.
IMHO with the number 1 prospect (if he is that) these coaches have to level with them. In private of course! And say that if you leak this we'll deny evertyhing, but he has to be told something like "you're going to sit behind Gunner for 1 year and then you're my guy! THe job is yours provided you pass all the test along the way, team first guy, know the play book, don't get injured and do all that ask of you. You're in! If you can't look the number 1 QB in the eye and tell him that and mean it, then you are in essence saying "just come and compete", but I don't think you're good enough to make a silent promise to. As a player would that work for you?
Now that means Bobo or CKS or both have to be on the same page and it also requires then to have already made up their mind having seen Puglisi for a couple of years and MOntgomery for a little bit if Puglisi has eveything they are looking for to win a NC. If he does then they need to just tell Curtis he would have to beat out Puglisi, nothing promised, if they really see Ryan or (Montgomery for that matter) being the next guy in line for Gunner. "you'd really have to come in and wow us!"
Now heres where it gets tricky, if there is no way you believe that Curtis can come in and as a redshirt FR and win the job, just because you value experience and loyalty to the program over "potential and the eye test" then it's only fair to share that with Curtis. After all we fans want transparency from these 18 year olds. So what about the coaches?
Unless you just are a homer and love UGA, and have always wanted to play for UGA, I'd be looking at a clear path to playing/ starting in my second season, with a top notch team, all things being equal in the same ball park money wise. You're not the number 1 guy for no reason! Coaches have to acknowledge there is a difference between being a good or solid D1 QB potentially and being a great one(potentially), maybe not to the guys you have in your stable though.
So, at the end of the day, either you just say to all best QB wins the job, and let the chips fall where they may or you have to hold some cards close to your vest and tell some one thing and maybe a someone else another thing. I'm probably over thinking all of thise. BUt I'm glad I'm not in our coaches shoes.
