You are kidding yourself if you think there was a strategy behind how they handled the end of the first half. It's called poor clock management. That's on HC/OC.
”Cash Jones picked up a critical fourth down by the smallest of margins”
How many effing times do you tempt fate with critical 4th down runs with your 4th string RB??? The Dr. Evil side in me wanted to CJ stopped short again like in the Bama game. Foo lish people keep trying the same failed thing over and over and expect different results. But from a fashionista standpoint Nate, Chauncey, Bo and Josh do look ravaging with their red n’ black pompous waving on the sidelines…oh, and great call with that 3 man no rush on that last pass into our end zone, nothing screams trying to lose like giving an opposing QB 10 seconds to set and throw…
McCray is fine when he's running north-south between the tackles. A whole bunch of plays called for him going much wider where he doesn't have the speed/elusiveness (it's also a lot easier to tackle big backs coming at them from an angle rather than head-on). Probably Bobo playing 4D chess again. And we chose a 182 lb walk-on (who I love!) as our short yardage back.
"Coaching was also an issue at the end of the first half, when Georgia botched a two-minute drill." That's on Kirby.
Seems Kirby and Bobo wanted to run the ball against Tech and Georgia was able to run pretty well until Drew Bobo's injury. Frazier had almost 100 yards in the first half alone, and Tech didn't have an answer. After Bobo's injury Georgia's offense had issues blocking up front, and couldn't move the ball efficiently on the ground in the second half.
So we don't know the status of Drew which is concerning. If he isn't close to 100% do they risk further injury and ineffective play? Or, if he is a no-go next week who gets the nod? Had Toliver in there in the second half but he struggled. There is also Waltclaire Flynn who was considered at one time the likely primary backup in the spring. Maybe DN can do a little bone digging.
Clock management and 2 minute offense has been both Kirby and Bobo's continued blunders, too many times they try to manipulate the clock and it bites them in the a$$. How many times does Georgia get ahead and we just try and run the ball and control the clock! Not sure we have had a good 2 minute offense since the Michigan game, then we screw that up, Georgia gets the ball right back on a fumble and run it a couple times and go to the half ****, did not try to score. The offense has looked bad the last 2 weeks, even against Charlotte was not in sync, I'm sure the Bobo apologist will stick up for him let's see if he can redeem himself.
"Maybe DN can do a little bone digging."
Thinking maybe they should just ask "social media"
TV commentators were also dumbfounded. And no challenge from the sidelines or the booth was surprising. Go Dawgs!
ama has a player out for the 1st half of the SECCG, due to a targeting call. Jam Miller took a beating everytime he carried the ball against auburn, and was eventually helped off the field after an injury. Hopefully that will have a lingering effect and it shows in his play Saturday..GoDAWGS! From what im reading on the Bama boards, it doesnt look like Miller will play in the SECCG now, due to a "lower leg" injury.·
I thought the targeting against the 'Bama guy was in the first half of the Auburn game which would make him eligible for the SECCG. Was there another targeting in the second half?
I beg to differ… it's not asking a lot for Tolliver, Gaston and/or Glover to meet the moment… that is Expected of them. In this elite program, this late in the season, and against a D-line not known for havoc, they must step up. Plus they now get paid to do so. Go Dawgs!
You are very correct, Thanks for correcting that!. He sat out the 2nd half due to targeting, therefore he IS eligible to start the SECCG. Had a brain lapse ..Its no fun getting old lol
“The offensive performance was disappointing, especially with how poor Georgia Tech’s defense has played this season.
Some of that is on Stockton, some of it is on offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Coaching was also an issue at the end of the first half, when Georgia botched a two-minute drill.”
Good analysis Connor! Especially on the horrendous clock management at end of first half. And yes, Coach Bobo reverted to his typical and predictable play calling against Tech after three weeks of atypically good play calling. Makes one wonder how he could be so good against Mississippi State and Texas and be so bad against Tech. Although, he did revert back to his typical play calling in the second and third quarters against Texas. We’ll need a good game plan for Bama. Didn’t have a very good plan last time against Bama and still should have won that game.
100% @BigFan - I kept wondering why Bo Walker or Rod Robinson weren’t used. They both looked good against an admittedly weak Charlotte D, but give ‘em some carries and see what they do. McCray lacks speed to go wide. Using one of my absolute favorite players on fourth and short is insane. We were fortunate Cash fell on the yard line.
My fear is that the Nerds may have cracked the code,ie. drop 8 make GS hold the ball and throw check downs are run for short gain as their LB's were dropping basically the same distance from the LOS as was GS. I'm pretty sure we'll see that again and hopefully have a plan to counter it.
Maybe but there were plays that Gunner has to see, like this one where he wants to go to Bell in the endzone but has guys opened underneath, one being Cash and the other is Branch I believe, with only one defender to beat up top. Take what the defense gives you.
