Gunner Stockton, experts weigh in on QB growth from last yearâs SEC title game to now
ATHENS â When Gunner Stockton took over at halftime of the SEC championship game, Kirby Smart knew the young quarterback was a long way from being a finished product.

Confidence, reps, timing, playbook knowledge, etc are all reasons Gunner has improved. He lacked all of these when we played Notre Dame because Beck was getting the vast majority in games and practices. What I love about Gunner is his quiet leadership and you can feel the love and respect from his teammates…..Not so much with Beck. Go Dawgs!!!
Gunner needs to trust himself. Stetson was crazy good, but made plenty of mistakes. Trust your teaching and your prep and then just play. He's fun to watch. Bobo needs to make sure they have balanced schemes, with as many pass options as run options. For goodness sake, get Tolliver ready.
"jdatl3"—Couldn't agree more—Gunner will play his best when he has full trust in himself and trusts his ability to lead that team.
"Gunner needs to trust himself"
If I had to guess, pretty sure he does - the GT game was just an off game imo, all QB's/players have them.
I promise no sarcasm here but the GT game has very little bearing on how Gunner and for that matter the whole Offense will play. It Did help the Defense develop even more confidence. If Bowens is fully healthy and KS said he Could have played vs GT , so that’s a good sign.
Watch him and Frazier and some McCray go Dawg wild on Bama !! Gunner will be fine. Our Dawgs are about to make us Even Prouder than we already are !! Go Dawgs !!
@BubbaBill "What I love about Gunner is his quiet leadership and you can feel the love and respect from his teammates…..Not so much with Beck."
The hilarious thing is that you only hear this from the fans, the vast majority of whom were negative about Beck from day one because they wanted Vandagriff and Stockton in there to run the Monken offense instead of Beck running Bobo's offense. You never at any time heard it from the players. The players never resented Beck's NIL deals. Why? Because SB IV had very lucrative ones himself and Stockton will sign his the instant he is allowed to after this season. And they never bad-mouthed him, even after he transferred to Miami. Which, lest we forget, only happened after Smart's idiotic play call - a slow developing hail mary with an OL clearly struggling in pass protection against one of the best pass rushes in the country - got Beck injured so badly that he couldn't enter the draft, where he would have gotten a $30 million guaranteed contract at minimum.
Nope, the players have only been supportive of Beck and have never uttered a negative word about him, whether openly or "off the record." The only criticism has been from the fanbase that never wanted him as UGA's QB to begin with.
