"Georgia’s defense forced 19 third-downs the first time against Alabama. The problem is that the Crimson Tide converted on 13 of them."
This 3rd down stat is a glaring deficiency, yet they only lost by 3 points. Getting this cleaned up should go a long way toward controlling the game by getting our offense back on the field to put up points. I'm not saying it will be easy, but they have what it takes to get the job done and bring home another SEC Championship!
GO DAWGS!
Yeah, this is the most glaring stat from that game. I don't know the stats from the prior three games, but I'm willing to bet Tennessee converted a lot of third downs also. The point is the defense was having a problem getting off the field before the Alabama game and Alabama exploited it. They've gotten better since and reading those quotes from C.J. Allen, you can tell it's been emphasized. They have to get Bama off the field when they have opportunities to win this game. On the other side the Dawgs offense has to get some explosive plays (12+ yards) especially in the run game. That will open up the passing game.
Defense wins championships. Are these young pups ready for their coming out party? In the immortal words of Ben Crenshaw…I have a good feeling!
Once they were lost, now they are found.
If we don't get them off the field, I fear our secondary will get gashed by their two great WRs and a very good QB. We have to limit their TOP or it will be a long day.
Limit 3rd down conversions, create a turnover or 2, and keep pressure on Simpson all game. Do that, and the offense helps out, that should equal a DAWGS win..GoDAWGS!
I’m trusting the Dawgs defense. I honestly believe they Will show up Big !! Now on Offense losing Drew hurt really bad. But keep in mind Bowens didn’t play vs GT though Kirby said he could have. When he’s healthy he’s a Beast. Frazier is playing his best football now. Remember he had a fumble vs Bama. So with Frazier, Bowens and a dose of McCray along and along I thinking and hoping Dawgs will be able to keep Bama off the field with One proviso.
And that proviso is Gunner is gonna have to connect Deep to Branch, Thomas, or Humphreys or at the least draw PIs. To keep Bama from stacking the LOS vs our run. Will the Refs dare call penalties on Bama ? Go Dawgs !!
Can we not give it to Cash on 4th down?
The defense wasn't the reason why they lost the first game. UGA shut them out in the second half. UGA lost the first game because of the offense. Two things. 1. Stockton only had 130 passing yards. 2. Bowens only carried the ball 12 times despite getting 10 yards per carry. Utter devotion to the "tailback by committee" thing makes no sense.
Utter devotion to the "tailback by committee" thing makes no sense.
And yet, when Bowens went down, the experience that the other RBs got has really showed out! And even though Frazier’s fumble was a huge factor in that game, that young man sure came on in the games since! RBU, baby!
Go Dawgs! Hate on Bama!
SAD THING about what you are saying here, @navydawg my friend, I can still see Kirby calling on Cash on a critical 4th and 1 once again this weekend….I pray I'm wrong…lol
However, Cash did did get a huge two yards in that Tech game on fourth down (maybe because the O-line blocked better with more experience !
Go Dawgs! Hate on Bama!
If you recall on the GT 4th down run, he got so excited that he was about together the first down that he tripped himself up and barely reached the ball over the line to gain…but yeah, he did get it and yeah, Frazier was on the sidelines watching and probably wondering why the staff had no confidence in him…again.
