Toliver was solid on Saturday. Next Man Up. Depth.
Go Dawgs!
Way to go Toliver!
Toliver played super well considering. Need to get the next man up ready just in case.
Toliver got better as he went. Solid in pass protection. On the final TD play think they stunted two rushers on him hitting the gaps, he took one as he should instead of try to half block both, Gunner slung it over to Branch and into the end zone he went.
Making the snap is of course the main thing. But make no mistake, reading and calling the D, and battling that heralded Bama line was also a very tall order. Toliver, as Kirby would say, really grew up. Keep chopping Big M. Go Dawgs!
I was very impressed and proud of Tolliver. He rose to the challenge with a very solid performance !! Go Dawgs !!
I admit I was wrong about Tolliver. I honestly thought that big Alabama Nose Tackle would beat him like a drum… It didn't happen. I'd say Tolliver won 60 plus percent of the battles. This reminded me of another battle that occurred in 1982 between a new starting Georgia Center and a big name Nose Tackle from Clemson. That would be Wayne Radloff vs. William "The Refrigerator" Perry… Radloff held his own against the "Fridge" and the Dawgs came out on top 13-7… And, that was with Herschel out with a broke thumb…
"Georgia also scored touchdowns on all four of its trips to the red zone."
This is a major improvement that CKS pointed out last season as an area of concern. That area of the field becomes very tricky, and everyone out there has to be on their game to score touchdowns instead of FG attempts.
GO DAWGS!
Great to hear the O-line not be called out during the game. To have Tolliver's name not mentioned was a good thing.
Keep it up Malachi!!
Re-post of mine from the DawgNation forum:
….Have to give huge props to the coaching staff in getting Malachi Toliver ready to take Drew Bobo’s place! Never have I seen a happier, more ecstatic player than that young man after the game!
He was hugging everything including the water cooler!
So very happy for him and the step up he made in his play in the biggest game of the year!
Glad to see Coach Kirby and Gunner Stockton praising him as well….shows their character in the process of developing the 'Next Man"!!
Go Dawgs!
my son, who played on the o line in hs, and I started the game kinda focusing on how to toliver was doing. He missed on the gap stunt bama did on that Frazier run loss on their first series, but after that held his own. It got so boring watching him, especially on pass pro, simply handle whoever he was on, we stopped focusing on him and simply enjoyed the rest of the offense.
