Well the Gumps got the W. To many costly mistakes by OU. Now to see if IN is as good as the hype. No off topics please, I’m trying to collect my announcer fee !! 🤣
Does Mateer sort of resemble Doug Flutie ( not in play) in Flutie’s younger years ? Does to me.
This hire has less to do with what you see on film and more to do with what you don't see on film. There is probably no one, not currently employed on the UGA staff, that knows more about everything about the UGA football program and head coach than CWM. Do you really think that that "intel" is not valuable to a team/coach that is 0-3 vs UGA in the last 18 mo?
Some post game notes on Bama vs OU in my opinion. 1) OU run game is no where near UGA 2) Gunner is better at scrambling out of trouble than Mateer and Gunner usually gets at least some positive ydg. when he does have to scramble.
3) Gunner might and I say might have an ever so slight advantage throwing down field, definitely throws better short to intermediate passes than Mateer.
4) Dawgs O Line is better than OU they buy Gunner more time than OU
5) OU looked pretty good at stopping the run, about as good as our Dawgs especially before they got gassed from their O going three and out to often.
6) Dawgs secondary is better than OU
7) Dawgs Defense as a whole have better game long endurance, as the game wore on the OU defense began to gas out and couldn’t get as much pressure on Simpson of course the obligatory uncalled holding helped Bama to.
8) At the early part of the game I would have ranked OU’s Special Teams on par with UGA but not so they fell apart. Even early on Thorson has better depth on punts than OU. The OU kicker made a nice 51 yd. FG but followed with two misses, the first miss would have been fairly easy for Woodring. The second miss more difficult but Woodring would’ve made that one to I believe.
I know my bias is brilliantly shining. But setting it aside OU is just not the team UGA is. Footnote Keep enough pressure on Simpson and he becomes very inaccurate. He also got away in clear sight with intentional grounding but that’s just the luxury of being Bama I guess.
I hear you, but I don’t agree that the intel is that helpful. Having played and coached the game, I don’t think that kind of intel is a big deal. There are numerous people out there who have seen UGA practices, etc. The info is already out there anyway, but it’s not significantly helpful imo. Kirby surely knew how Nick did things at Bama. Didn’t seem to be very helpful.
As I said in an earlier comment below..an opposing coach can know every play you can possibly use, if the team doesnt execute and stop those plays, that "advantage" you gained is worth about as much as the paper the playbook is printed on.
And the obvious false start against Bama that was conveniently overlooked. Right tackle took a full step backwards before the ball was snapped. 4 referees within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, and all 4 at the same time are rendered temporarily blind for 3 seconds 😂 What really gets me at times, a ref 5 yards from the play can't see a penalty, but a ref 40 yards down the field can, and is the one who throws a flag 🤣
Seems to me that Sark has developed a Georgia obsession, sort of like the guy on North Ave. We know how that works out for Gtech. Odd to me as we've already whipped TX 3 times in 2 years & don't even play them next year. Still think we need to send some message to TX - either winning a recruiting battle against them for a change, going hard after some of their TX kids that are priority for Sark, and doing what we can w/their players in transfer portal.
Absolutely, there are no secrets in football - other than the play that is called in the huddle…and that is a guess from the other side, and it’s based on formations.
Winning teams do so from hard work, experience, talent, execution, "the want to", team chemistry, situational play calling, character, hard work, etc.
"All plays work if they are executed" - if you want to beat UGA, you have to out-do them in those things and be "the straw that stirs the drink", or a leader.
Football ain't hard, but those things mentioned is hard work.
Yep. Totally agree !! Over the course of the whole game Bama always gets the benefit of officiating. Oh they’ll get a penalty along and along but the Refs always seem to help them at the most critical times. I hope there will come a day that just Being Bama doesn’t influence the game. Course you have little Nicky Saban sitting on probably the most powerful media entity in CFB which is ESPN so there’s that. And before someone says well what about when Pollack was there ? David with all respect never carried the clout that COACH Saban Did and Does.
Warning Off Topic !! For those concerned about our players not being ready after such a lengthy time off. Two things to consider. 1) If anyone knows this it’s Kirby I bet all along and this coming week in particular he will push the Dawgs Very hard just hope no injuries in practice !!
2) I imagine that most of if not all our players will watch these playoff games before theirs ( the Dawgs) and they will See the pain that losing causes. I’m NOT an OU fan but I had some empathy for them in their loss. They initially had that game well in hand but penalties and s t u p I d blunders cost them to much. I’m sure our players saw that as a painful reminder of what can happen when you lose focus. And of course Bama was blessed with the plain and in sight holding and other Uncalled things they Typically get. When Any team plays them it must be remembered that Bama is considered a legacy team and will get No Calls and most 50-50 calls. It is what it is. You can’t draw allot of penalties and/or play blunder ball and expect to beat them. KS will have our Dawgs ready and I think their chaffing at the bit to get back on the field real game. Go Dawgs !!
That goes both ways, don’t you know. Kirby will certainly be preparing for a defensive scheme he will be very familiar with as well. Find it ironic the unintended consequence heads haven’t picked up on this…Georgia’s offense goes against the scheme Muschamp will implement at Texas every single day in practice.
Thank you Coach Muschamp for everything you did for Georgia!
Sark with the "unintended consequences" is full of so much 💩. 😂.
"If you can't really even get close to beating them... offer them more money" should be their new mantra. Them and Texas Tech can share it.
Kirby gon have some more "UniNTenDeD cOnSeQUenCeS" for you if you're lucky enough to make the SEC championship or playoff. 4-0 is going to sound even sweeter.
