Can someone explain to me the reason for the "rule" prohibiting Pearce Spurlin from playing again at UGA? I understand that they want to prevent a form of "gray-shirting" of players at any school. But, I am sure that, in true cases of "ac enough to show that the retirement was necessary in the first place, and that the "treatment" given to the player has caused enough improvement to allow resuming athletic career. I am sure that a medically retired player who wished to play at his original school could allow release of medical records to allow an independent review that would show that the condition has been treated successfully enough to allow the player to return. Then, depending on the timing of the medical "release" from retirement, the player would have to option to rejoin the team in the next available academic cycle ( within the limits faced by the team ( specifically the 105 player limit in football ), and if the team has no available space, then the player could choose to either wait or to transfer without penalty.

Robinson was injury prone and Dowdell is injury free who runs with a purpose. Hate to give credit to the new championship coach at IU, but they say he only brought in players who had injury free careers and 23 years old. We just might have a gem in Dowdell!
