Warms my heart that Coach Smart is looking to improve the pass rush after 10 years of not worrying about it.

His best D lines always got good pressure from the inside, and I expect that to improve this season as well, but yes I agree there are times when you just have to get home on the pass rush. I look for the defense to be stout from the start this year, I just hope the offense can make a jump comparable to to that.

Some of it is people, some is scheme. He added one guy from Auburn, which will help. With all the recruits, one is bound to step up. And we have at least one or two from last year.

Obviously Kirby is well aware of the problems and question marks for UGA going into this season. Though he Is a defensive minded guy I’m sure he’s also well aware of the same on O. And I’m confident he will be doing as much as he can to either solve or greatly diminish those issues.
Him being a great defensive guy I Trust him to make the right hire for LBs Coach. I’m also excited about the new O Line Coach. All said I Believe our Dawgs have just as much potential to do great things as any other team. Go Dawgs !!

To your point, Gramster…..Nnamdi Ogboko and Nasir Johnson have similar physical dimensions as JD….. what's missing is a developer…..Jarvis Jones…..Legendary DGD sack leader, NFL experience, Dawg coaching experience, Georgia HS connection as a winning coach……I'm sure he'd come for less than UzoD was paid and deliver 100% more results.

How about Davin as new LC Coach? **** (Very) Good Dawg, and his show is a breath of fresh air from most of the talking head doofuses out there.

I honestly think that we have true freshmen that will contribute nicely from the very start comes game one. I also think that At Least three out of the TP will contribute nicely for the team. Combine those two factors with the Once young but no longer young guys from last year and Dawgs should be a formidable force !! I’d love to see Jarvis Jones get the coaching job. He has all the tools to be a great coach !! Like All Dawgs fans I want them to win another Ntl. Title. And I Believe they can. But look the Dawgs won 12 of 14 games only losses were one by 3 points the other by 5 points. So if the Dawgs can Improve Some on both sides of the ball that alone should get them a more successful year. But again like All Dawgs fans I want them to improve more than just Some. And I think it’s doable. Go Dawgs !!

Jarvis Jones, to me, is the obvious answer. One heck of a football player, and I hear the kids who play for him in High School really love him.

Welcome troll, we're so glad to have you, feel free to hang around at least until Florida gets a relevant football program again…Aaron Philo for DJ Lagway? That sounds like a great trade, warms Coach Smart's heart I'm sure…

It's not the coach. It's the scheme and the defensive play calling. And maybe the recruits (driven by the scheme).

UGA defense is stop the run 1st. Unfortunately CFB has evolved into pass 1st offensively.

I don't blame CKS for being Iceman (see Top Gun). When CKS typically has a better team you don't take the risks. You let the other team make the mistakes.

However you must have the capability and adjust when you play other top tier teams.

Most people focus on the DE/OLB rushing the passer, but the key to a great pass rush is to get pressure up the middle and with four, rather than sending a LB. As someone pointed out earlier, the UGA teams with the most sacks recently had special DTs: Davis, Carter, and Wyatt. The worst pressure for a QB is someone in their face, not an outside rusher. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone on this team generate consistent pressure up the middle. Hopefully, Elijah Griffin will become that guy.

It isnt our scheme. It was a number of different things overall, but the main and constant one was we were an extremely young and also inexperienced all over the field. Even most the guys who were older barely had enough experience to call meaningful. Then there were unique circumstances that made one edge position uniquely inexperienced having been a qb jus6 over a year b4 start of last season. Another edge had put on a ton of weight to hold up at de and over course oc season we saw him get used to and begin to reak havoc until injured. Behind those guys were young, no experienced or new playerz. Thr defensive backs being extremely young and no experienced went thru growing pains and fhere inability to tske away ghe quick game often ruined plays that our dl one off the ball and would havd had sacks (no one is sacking the qb when the ball ix out in uncertainty second or two). Throw in all the top offenses and passing attacks we faced sifh elite top of the country wr talent who were excellent at utilizing the quick game and fhat talent it didnt help us statistically early heck even fhe bad small Austin p .type teams might have ran no more than 3 to 5 pass plays that the ball waznf in and out of the qb hands immediately. Perfectly content to get in and out with a loss and acknowledging they. Couldn't hold up in pass pro so they didn't even try.

We got gutted out of no where losing who was meant fo be our main premier pass rushed lasf minute when he took our money and then took someone else's and dipped. It also hurt losing TID b4 we anticipated which pushed uo everyone in fhe rooms roles a step. Guys not ready or meant to start became the guys and players meant to be developing and rarely play at all if any became the heavy use rotation pieces. Throw in the info I spoke on about how it was a more challenging than normal situation than an ordinary one above for the 2 starters and yeah there will be some struggles. All made to stick out and seem amplified bc of the other factors I broke down as well as our dl has just never been a high sack getting team. I suppose I shoulf give a little in saying you arent completely wrong about scheme, but its not entirely about it. Its not that you cant have good sack numbers bc of it or that it doesnt want to or prevents u from getting sacks. Its just a scheme that requires discipline and asks for things besides getting to sell out at all costs to chase numbers. We also haven't recruited guys with the skill sets that typically result in those super high sack numbers in recent years. It does seem fo be bending on that tho and Amaris Williams is one I am pumped wjth his ELITE twitch and speed to see what he can do if we use him properly. I pray we don't shove him inside like auburn was forced to do bc of who they had st their ends. If we let him play from st leazt the 5 preferabky the 9 or even 7 tech and say go create havoc, go get the qb thst man is so fast, athletic and csn bend that he could do something we havent seen in a long time at uga. Fun to imagine
