Connor being Connor.
How was Branch a "Winner". He was drafted 79th—probably about 40 slots later then he should've been—that's a lot of money. Plus he was drafted by the lowly Falcons. Perhaps you're saying that the mere fact that he was drafted makes him a winner. Wishing all of our draftees the best!
So IGA has had recruiting classes in the top 3 every year virtually since Smart became the coach ten years ago. This year UGA cam in sixth in the NFL draft. What happened? Steve Spurrier used to say he was amazed at how Georgia could develop all those 5-star recruits up to 3-star level. Inconvenient truth?
Yeah, I don't know about Z Branch's pick position being a winner for him. How is it that kids keep going to Clemson, only to go 7 and 6 with all those talented players. Dabo had his day, and it's gone.
No losers and winners. Do think that some who departed college ball early may have jumped the gun a bit. Others had to leave but didn't have the talent for the big league. All had hopes and dreams unfortunately they don't always come to fruition thx for your efforts enjoyed watching you play.
Until Georgia proves it is a more consistent, successful, pass-oriented team that can regularly stretch the field vertically, the teams like Ohio State and others will be the ones to continue to have the elite, 1st round draft pick WRs on their rosters. The narrative of Georgia' RB-oriented offense has not changed overall. Players know this and in general, the elite WRs won't end up playing for the Dawgs.
BUT, I'm hoping this is the breakout season for our TE room, and not just as blockers in the running game.
MontanaDawg, we could have the 51 ppg, 2019 LSU offense in today’s CF, and still not get elite receivers to come. Today’s incoming CF players are all about the money.
Beachwagon, the portal is what is diminishing our draft numbers now. We bleed former 5-Stars to the portal every season.
Ohio State was definitely a winner as it seems like every year they have many of the top picks. It was an "okay" draft for UGA: CJ Allen sat on the board for a while (LOTS of CBs selected before him), Branch went lower than he could have and even Thorson saw another Punter taken in the draft while he wasn't selected.
If people want to judge UGA's performance at the draft perhaps also look at Ohio State…leading in draft picks but didn't even win their conference and lost in first round of playoff by 10...if UGA was in similar circumstances, I feel confident folks would be doubting Kirby's coaching acumen…
I said it in a prior post and I’ll say it again. Noah Thomas regressing at UGA and going UDFA is a bad look for the program.
The wide receiver group was not win for UGA by a long shot.
why is a Dawgnation writer opining on Clemson? Talk about off topic!!!
@Dawggie...well, our narrative is very different vs Ohio State - we are a rush-oriented team that has always been that way. Ohio State is more balanced, but tends to favor a more aggressive passing attack. LSU in 2019 was an annamoly. The Dawgs have never had a QB even close to the passing and smarts caliber of Joe Burrow in college. He made that team, steamrolled the opponents, and made the WRs even better. The mold of that 2019 LSU team was completely opposite of the typical rushing heavy narrative of LSU. It was a beautiful thing to watch.
In other breaking Georgia winners and losers news…congrats to the 6th ranked Diamond Dawgs for taking two of three on the road at #17 Ole Miss…
It's extremely relevant in the context of the NFL draft. Clemson having more players taken than UGA is a concern (yes I know we had a young team) while at the same time, Clemson having that many players taken and not making the CFP is, well, amusing for those of us rooting for Dabo's downfall.
Writing about UGA in a vacuum is both boring and bad journalism.
spurrier said that 30 years ago. In case you haven’t noticed, times have changed. UGA still had a good number drafted. You can’t be #1 every year. And how many times have the Gators beaten Georgia in the past ten years? How many players did Florida have drafted? Your pic of 34 ain’t fooling anyone, troll.
