Don’t know where he’ll end up, but I like that he shows common courtesy to our Head Coach by saying “Coach Smart” instead of “Kirby.” 17 year olds calling a head coach by his first name shows a lack of raising imo. Yeah, I’m ole school.

Kirby did say on day one, he wanted not to be called "coach". I get your point though! :)
the following quote stood out to me: “It is the Georgia community,” he said. “That’s all I’ve heard from former players. When people see you went to Georgia, it’s like an instant connection. Everybody knows your name. People have heard your name. You’re a known person. I’ve also heard so much about it helping on the business side of things once you’re out of college and no longer playing football.”
I heard Davin Bellamy echo this recently with Brandon Adams on the podcast. Players like Tyler Atkins, who chased an extra million dollars in the short term hurt themselves in long run. In Atkins’ case, he was fairly well known around here, but now all that recognition and good will he built for himself is down the drain by going to Texas where nobody knows him. Why give the middle finger to the area where you have roots?Why offend half the state? Stay home where you’ll always be loved and where your connections will never be severed
I don't get excited about recruiting any more. Signing, yes. Recruiting, no.
This article is the perfect example of what NIL has done to CFB and specifically to UGA football recruiting.
Remember when we used to read about Pittman recruiting 5* OT's like Mims, Salyer and Mays? Now we read about the #32 OT and #365 prospect.
Not saying right or wrong. Just an observation that NIL and pay for play is now inarguably king of CFB. Nothing else is close in most cases.
So what is the strategy? Strong recruiting of mostly 2nd tier talent. Sell development to 2nd tier talent. Add some missing pieces through the TP?
We have been seeing that strategy since NIL became prominent. The old "Alabama" model, even with a very good coach like Kirby Smart, coupled with a #5 - #10 NIL/TP/recruiting money strategy has not produced Top 5 finishes.
I like what UGA is doing. Ride out the uncertainty. Re-assess when the playing field becomes more clear. But to expect Top 5 finishes under this strategy is unrealistic. It seems you get what you pay for in the new CFB.
That being said, UGA seemingly has a 1 year window to make a championship run. I say that because of what the defense is likely to lose after this season. ERIV, KJ, Cole, RWilson, JHall, McCloud, Barnes and ? are all likely gone after this season. But with them all, this year's D looks like it could be very good. Couple that with an experienced QB that is hopefully poised to take a big step and you have 1 year window of opportunity.
Last year MS (Ol Miss) made a run. Rode their hot QB to within a game of the CFBCG. Can GS do the same for UGA this year? GS ceiling is UGA's ceiling.
