Stetson Bennett faces tough odds in Rams back-up QB race with Ty Simpson
Stetson Bennett faces tough odds in Rams back-up QB race with Ty Simpson
âStetson has been in a good situation in Los Angeles, but sometimes the business side of things can get in the way,â said Jake Fromm, a former UGA and NFL quarterback who played ahead of Bennett on the 2017 and 2019 Bulldogsâ teams.

Here we go with Stetson getting the bum deal again. I couldn't believe it when the Rams drafted Ty Simpson. I just don't see Ty Simpson as an NFL QB-maybe I'm missing something.
Everything I'm hearing (not saying I know anything more than what's available on the web) is that SB has won over much of the fan base and his teammates and McVauy has confidence in him that he could step in and win games if need be and that TY doesn't look like he's at all ready to be #2.
It goes with out saying that teams are always looking to improve their rosters and if a trade worked out for a #2 that made more sense than SB of course they would move in that direction.
SB's next steps will be to play well in pre-season. WHy would anyone ever doubt SB?
Obviously, someone in the Rams brain trust doesn't have 100% confidence in SB to lead the team in the future…that being said - is Ty Simpson really worth a first round pick? you better have great protection and lots of receiver options…
No matter what happens to SBIV, he'll always be a hero to our family, and not just for his two nattys, but especially his "never quit" mentality... fingers and toes crossed he knocks it out of the park for the Rams this preseason!
Great comments from my fellow Dawgs fans !! All I can say is two things:1) I hope & pray Stets has the best Summer practices of his career ! 2) First time Simpson goes up against a good pressure defense he’ll fall apart like a Legos creation hit by a jealous brother or sister !! Go Stetson ! Go Dawgs !
Hey I want to wish All my fellow Dawgs fans and their families a Great and Safe 4th of July as we celebrate 250 years of the Greatest country on planet earth !! May God richly Bless you All !! Even when we have heated disagreements I Love my fellow Dawgs fans !! 😀♥️
It was obvious when the LAR's selected Simpson in RD 1 that it would have an impact on SBIV's situation. But it may not play out that SBIV is the obvious man out.
LAR back up QB Garoppolo makes $4M - $13M depending on PT. At this point in his career is Garoppolo that much better than SBIV? Salary cap considerations still impact roster decisions. IF SBIV is ready to assume the QB2 position LAR's can save on the cap and still bring Simpson along at his pace.
If the LAR's keep Garoppolo it is doubtful (but possible) that SBIV can land on their practice squad. If he is cut there is a good chance he is signed by another team as QB3 or PS QB. SBIV has good athleticism and a live arm. Cooper Rush (Dallas/NYG/Balt) is just one example of a guy that has carved out a long (8 yr) career as a career back up.
It is doubtful that SBIV's time in the NFL is up yet. How SBIV performs with extensive preseason PT will determine what happens next for him.
As for Ty Simpson, like most QB's when given time, he can carve a team up. He carved UGA up in the '25 regular season game, when given time, with no running game.
"Vote Down Man" (AKA Debbie Downer)—Thanks for making a great board with great comments into your own personal s&*tstorm.
Normally I try to keep my comments strictly about football (or basketball). But in this case I'll make an exception.
Yeah that's the way to get someone anonymously giving you (you) a thumbs down to cease and desist. Why would anyone care whether someone gave them a thumbs down (or up) on this chat forum? You'd (figurative) have to be pretty insecure to care what someone thinks about what you (figurative) wrote.
As someone who has gotten more thumbs down than most (combined?) I look at it 2 ways. 1) someone is trying to get a reaction ("Debbie Downer"). Or 2) someone thumbs down because they are afraid to actually debate football.
If you are looking/writing at/for the thumbs up/down you are posting for the wrong reasons.
Look, I like Stetson as much as the next guy and I certainly appreciate his "never say die" attitude as that certainly served Georgia well for two nattys. But I was really surprised at the stat for the last two years (exhibition games) 8 interceptions? That's a lot. It reminds me of his earlier days at Georgia. He threw a lot of those. I know that when he was playing, he did not have most of the starters in the game - but dang, that is a lot of interceptions. That might give a team pause about his future.
"UGADad20"—I appreciate your reading my post, I've read many of yours and enjoyed them, but you are missing my point. I couldn't care less if someone downvotes my post and "insecure"—I am not. The rationale of my angst is the sheer number done on each board. For instance—look at "navydawg's" post from June 29—it got a vote down—you might as well vote down "have a long and healthy life". Hope everyone has a wonderful July 4—God Bless America!!
I didn't miss your point. Your posts are usually vey clear. Clearly you were taking up for @navydawg. I saw his post and agree with his sentiment. But, since this is a football board, it was unnecessary to comment on a post that was not football related.
I think you missed my point. I was definitively specific when I referred to you (you) and you (figuratively). And I did so specifically to try and head off any misunderstanding. I guess I failed.
Figurative language is used to refer to people in general instead of a specific individual. It is called the impersonal you or indefinite you. So really none of what I said referred to you (you) specifically. Other than your comment invited more down votes.
It would be a pretty boring board if everyone agreed 100% on each other's comments.
"UGADad20"—First-thanks for caring. I, too, am a UGA Dad—3 times over. Being a proud graduate of the Franklin College in English, I understand the diametric of the "you's" in English. Perhaps I'm too harsh—I certainly wouldn't want to see a perfectly homogeneous comment board—you are correct—that would be a very boring read. Thanks again.
Hard to believe that the Rams would offer Simpson a $25M contract. Not prudent at all…. Simpson was never an elite QB…
If LA does cut SBIV, it would be smart for the Falcons to pick him up. It would double their popularity and the cash register would probably wear out from excessive use!
