ATHENS — One of Georgia’s oldest defensive linemen is no longer on the roster, as Georgia defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod is no longer with the team.

Said it’s nothing with the coaches and that he was glad he got to finish with Georgia. Head scratcher for sure.
This is a bit strange to say the least. With all the talent mentioned in the article I bet he wasn’t going to be a starter so he took his ball and headed home. I’d bet even money he will come out of “retirement” and re-appear in the next transfer portal. Go Dawgs!!!
He just threw his potential as football player away. Sorry to witness this. So long Zay!
At first glance I hate to hear this, but if he is just tired of football or upset about something else I can’t imagine he would be a large asset to the team playing this season. Does seem strange that he goes through all the brutal summer workouts and even more brutal fall camp and now on what’s got to be an easier slope decides to bail. May be, probably is, more to it but I wish him well and back to “ next man up”. Go Dawgs.
strange indeed. Bust your rear end in practice and then hang it up. Curiosity asks what happens to the NIL of folks who do this? Hopefully our depth will cover this loss. good luck to the young man.
Wow !! Sad to hear this !! But I wish him the very best as long as it’s not on another team against our Dawgs. I wonder if he was getting beat in practices and was getting frustrated ? I was hoping this was gonna be a great year for him. I also like Big Baby Hall but worry about his durability. Well gotta go with the cards your dealt.
Doesn’t make sense. You go through Ggane, Spring and Fall practice and right before the season you decide to retire? Something not adding up that will hurt the defense but life goes on and next man up.
Sounds about right
Maybe we can get an NFL defensive lineman to fill his slot. 🫤
I would say if you’re truly “retiring from football,” you’re not concerned about potential anymore.
in another article Kirby said we’re down to 105 players so won’t need to make any cuts. I’m guessing McCleods quit and retiring comments meant he was number 106
Looks like he saw no light at the end of this season's tunnel so bailed. Albeit…it hurts! Wish him well.
Seems kind of strange since he could've been a big contributor on the D line this year. But, best of luck young man..GoDAWGS!
🤣
@Augustadog it defies logic to put in the back-breaking work all Summer and Fall Camp and not hang around for the payoff (as you so adequately stated in your comment). Game time reps are what these guys would kill for, and he was well positioned to get as much or more playing time as he could wish for. I just hope Smart and Schueman saw it coming and aren’t caught by surprise. I’m still convinced this defensive unit can be the best in the country!
GO DAWGS!
