that has to be the dumbest headline I have ever read. Every team has to prove this day and time. It’s no cake walk anymore.
@MontanaDawg @NJDAWG Just so both you guys know I mean absolutely no disrespect or sarcasm to you. We all have our opinions that’s part of the fun. I Do get weary of sports writers dissing the Dawgs !! If you really think about it they didn’t get near the respect they Well Deserved for winning B2B Nattys. KS has only had one “bad” season at UGA in my view and we’ve all seen much worse, that being his first year. I think Kirby has this and will make us proud !! Go Dawgs !!
This is off topic, but why can’t the game Saturday be moved to a night game? Games are moved all the time for weather so why not extreme heat? I know tv has a lot to do with it, but this game is only on streaming so not many people would be affected by it being moved.
I fully agree. And just kidding with this comment, but maybe we should call a judge from Louisiana ! And the LA Governor was celebrating the decision !!
@navydawg....nope bud, you didn't tick me off. We're all good. Every fan just wants the Dawgs to win!
Amen to that ! And fwiw I always enjoy and respect your well thought out comments. I agree with you 99% of the time Go Dawgs !!
I prefer the idea of winning every game and letting standings fall where they may. I see no reaason to be consumed with this Natty ranking. I think we have a good team and looking forward to see them in action win or lose.
As far as the playoffs, gotta be honest, the near month off is the killer here. And that isn't just us, that is ALL teams with the single exception being indiana, who played a mediocre alabama team. Fix that layoff and you'll have a more believable outcome.
When you have 4,5, 6 QB's on your roster who were all killer in HS and presumably could go to some other major college(not saying the likes of UGA but somewhere decent), and you can't pass the ball down the field with any consistency, then is it a product of the QB position or is it the scheme of the OC? If GS can't pass the ball downfield consistently then can none of the other QB's on the roster either? If he can't, why is he your QB1? If he can and he doesn't, whose fault is that?
I would be curious to know what GS's "air yards per attempt" was in HS. Is he just being who he is or is he being restricted?
@reddawg1 I don’t know if the following info. will help answer your questions but this is info. from his Senior year at Rabun County H.S. As a senior in 2021, he led them to the state playoff quarterfinals again with a 12–2 record while throwing for 4,134 yards, 55 touchdowns and only one interception, being named All-State for the fourth time in his career and being named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year.[5][13] He set the state records in passing touchdowns, total passing and rushing touchdowns and combined passing and rushing yards.[13]He totaled 13,562 passing yards and 177 passing touchdowns at Rabun County while also running for 4,372 yards and 77 touchdowns in his career.[5]
@reddawg1 Much of this comments now are just my humble opinions. OK my wife and I moved here to Rabun County in 2022. The local people here say by and large that Gunner is the best QB to pass through Rabun County HS. Though a small school they are Very competitive and usually at or near the top of their region yearly.
Gunner was a dual threat QB in HS. He made Allot of hay using his feet. BUT as I’ve been told arm strength was Never a problem for him. If anything in terms of error he tended to over throw the receiver rather than under throw. Kirby and UGA took Gunner with full knowledge that he was a dual threat QB.
What vexes me about sports writers and even some of our own fans is the refusal to acknowledge the Ten TDs he got with his feet. But of equal importance the Numerous first downs he picked up with his feet. Many of which were Critical 4th down conversion attempts !!
Some on here make out like he just took one look at the field, tucked the ball and ran out of bounds. That is not accurate at all. YES he sometimes missed open receivers. But last year was his first year as starter. Plus UGA wants him to be more of a pure pocket passer which goes against his natural instincts. For Gunner that’s like asking a pure pocket passer to become a dual threat QB !!
The first playoff verses Notre Dame Gunner was so very green !! Heck he was greener than ND school colors !! Dawgs fans many times have a hard time giving credit to rival teams. I do to Lol !! But the Truth is Ole Miss with Chambliss was a Very good team. Gunner and the Dawgs got the best of them the first time. But Ole Miss got it done the next time by 5 points. Old Miss didn’t destroy Gunner and the Dawgs they nipped us by only 5 points.
Still a Win is a Win. Dawgs went 11-2 with an SEC Crown but Some Dawgs fans act like Gunner committed some sort of unpardonable sin !! Now all these things said it is totally reasonable and Expected that Gunner be improved This year. Kirby says he has. I’m gonna ride with what Kirby says until I see different. It Seems at this point the concern is not so much Gunner but Who can reliably replace him should he get injured ? I think Gunner will be fine as long as he doesn’t get a Serious injury. Just my take !! Go Dawgs !!
