LSU played a complete game on both sides of the ball, a total beat down of what-used-to-be a good Clemson squad, Leavitt looked as good as we expected....BUT, yes, I think jumping that many spots seems kind of too much. Maybe #3?
Imo....Oklahoma deserves some love....with Master playing like Stockton and the defense as good as advertised (4 sacks). If anybody jumps...it should be UGA & OU.
HOWEVER, Mike is probably right. We are all basing our ranking on a pre-season poll where it is total conjecture based on how we expect teams to play. This is why the AP shouldn't even release any poll until after Week 1. Argh.
Assuming no pre-season poll, based on the first week's body of work, LSU should and will probably be ranked #1.
Imo....nobody was really challenged in game 1.…including an LSU hammering an already suspect and unranked, Clemson team....at home, at night, rain delayed game in "the loudest SEC Stadium. Sorry....I don't give em extra props for that. Lol
I generally understand this point; however, if we enter every season under the premise that we don't know how good anyone is supposed to be, what would the in-season rankings even be based on? There has to be some starting point, and looking at how good a team has recently been, the production they have returning, etc. is a sensible place to start.
Now, I also think that a healthy degree of flexibility should be applied in the first few weeks, since we actually need to see the teams in action to get a sense of how accurate the projections were. But if we're saying that we truly don't consider anyone to be better than anyone else before the season begins, then that would mean final scores are all you can go by in sorting out the rankings. The fact that that's not how it works - and for obvious reason - underscores the need for context in the form of pre-season rankings.

Texas is still a joke. Once they get into the meat of their SEC schedule it will show. LSWHO played a piss poor Clemson team and ran it up as much as he could for show, like that cajun street walker promo he had going before the game. I'm not going to sit here and say that I have any idea who plays the Dawgs in the SEC Championship this year, but from what I have seen I ain't skeered of any of them.
