I both agree with what Chris Cole said AND Kirby's less-than-positive critique of how the Dawgs have played the last 2 games. We know Smart is not really happy to have to play these kind of games, but all you can do is play the games in front of you. Time to review the good and the bad and learn from both.
Oklahoma and Oregon both lost against what should have been inferior opponents. Dawgs cannot lose their focus against any opponent as anything can happen.
We learned that our 2nd and 3rd team players couldn't match up with the Hilltopper's starters. WHich is truly puzzling to me. As soon as Puglisi came in late in the fist half it was pretty much all down hill on the offensive side of the ball (outside of a defensive score and a special team score we got zilch, and our defense couldn't stop their QB from running it straight up the middle for some reason . Where was our middle linebacker? Outside of Puglisi's long run neither he nor Montgomery looked like they were capable of leading the team against a Western Kentucky much less an Alabama or a Texas should GS go down.
Other than that everything went according to plan.
The biggest thing we’ve learned is that our backups aren’t near as good as our starters and most second stringers.
have to agree with Kirby except for one thing- there have been times in recent years where this type of game should have happened against this type of opponent- and DIDN’T- so, to that end, this team did what it should have - focus. That’s a good sign in my book
As already pointed out, we have learned several things. The most disturbing thing we SEEM to have learned is that our backup QBs need vast improvement. It’s time for the coaches to figure out who is the #2 QB and get him better by more reps in practice and in games.
