If you want to cancel these games, while I don't like it, I get it. However, do not turnaround and play a neutral site game. If you can find room for a couple of neutral site games, then you could play a home and home. (The years we play Tech at home - we could play Clemson on the road…4 SEC home games/Tech/Cupcake…When we play Tech on the road - we could play Clemson at home…4 SEC home games/Clemson/Cupcake).)
By the way, I thought Kirby was against neutral site games as he railed against the tradition of the Georgia Florida game. Now this seems to be his solution.
Accept it or not, but nobody is going to have it their way. For my two cents, start every season with two easy games to work out the kinks. I have a problem with cancelling the games with Clemson in order to schedule neutral site games with other competetive teams. Play the Clemson games at a neutral site if it's all about the money.
It doesn't help our potential home game scheduling that we have one less home game every other year playing our biggest rival in their home state. It's all about the $'s.
I hate this with a passion. All of us older guys on here know what a long standing and intense rivalry this has been with Clemson. Back in the day, Clemson was the most hated rival—not GT or Florida. There have been some kick a%% games over the decades. I wish we could make this happen again. Lordy I hated them Tigers. Clemson, SC was and is still a s$%t hole. GO DAWGS
Sooooo, the headline said Kirby Smart would make it clear who was at “fault” for canceling the Clemson games. Did he make it clear? I couldn’t tell.
Don't understand our fascination with playing Clemson (& Tech for that matter). Both do little for us in my opinion due to A: proximity and B: competitiveness gone, so a win is near meaningless.
IF, the CFP rewards scheduling top, at least Power 4 teams, rather than cupcake schedules like Indiana, Miami, ND, THEN I'd be up for playing a tough non-con game like a Clemson, but not them due to proximity as said above.
I'd prefer adding non-regional home & home games against teams such as: UCLA, Notre Dame, Michigan, Colorado, Arizona State, etc. The recent ND home & home was a blast; trip to Chicago / South Bend by red clad masses was one of best ever. Went to ASU & Colorado in past. Fun to go to new places with the Dogs. And it builds the UGA brand outside of our little 100 mile pocket of UGA, Clemson, and Tech.
"Max"—Understand and agree with what you're saying. Playing and beating Clemson is important because we go head to head with them on many recruits. I'll bet in some years, 60 to 70 percent of their roster is from the state of Georgia.
Not sure how good a game you'd get with Clemson these days, even if it was scheduled... 🤔😳
