Texas should stay No. 1 after sitting idle, but there's room for debate from the No. 2 spot on down.

So, Mike, I take it you’ll pick against Georgia this week?!?
Putting Florida right behind Missouri ignores what happened in Columbia. Missouri put on a clinic which made Florida look like a bunch of 5th graders. Maybe worse than TCU playing Georgia. I'd agree with you in ranking Alabama above Georgia. Hopefully, Alabama will be ranked #1 and Georgia will be ranked #5. Then we'll find out what's what on the field of play. Until then, Alabama deserves a higher ranking than the Dawgs.
Assuming Georgia shows up like Missouri showed up, Georgia will beat Alabama. Georgia has the more talented team, but that doesn't mean they'll win. I'm a bit afraid Georgia's a bit into admiring their work.
Go, Dawgs!
Against Vandy Georgia did what they so often have done over the years—look lethargic for an early kick. The defense almost looked tired and distracted, often falling to get in the right position to make a play. It seems I remember a similar performance in games leading up to the Texas win one year. All this is to say I’m excited for our Georgia team to meet Alabama next week. I believe they will be locked in for that matchup, playing with fire, passion and energy. Go Dawgs!
Then you have people like that moron heather dinich, who has ohio state at number 2.
Next season it won't really matter how those 1-loss SEC teams will be ranked, because at the end of the day most of them will be in a 24-team playoff...
But you have to look at who Kentucky played.
@David1 I think Georgia will beat Alabama, but right now the Tide has a better overall resume and performed better in the most recent outing. Gotta think Kirby/Bobo have not had to put as much on tape, and feel like UGA's players fresher with all the subbing Georgia has been able to do — plus, the confidence of the guys returning who were on the field for 28-7 win. Rankings don't always reflect who would beat who … football is a game of matchups.
@JimWallace Yes, and we could make the case that Florida behind Ole Miss is ignoring what happened in Gainesville; And having Missouri ahead of Miss State ignores what happened between those teams in Starkville; and having LSU behind Ole Miss ignores what happened in Oxford…. like I wrote in the story, transitive properties are out the window.
Thanks Mike! I like your rankings this week. My only difference is I have Bama at 1. Of course, every team I have put at 1 has lost the next week. That includes LSU, Ole Miss, and Florida. So this week I’m putting Bama there hoping to be wrong for the 4th time. 😂😂
I don’t think they have a better resume than Georgia. They haven’t faced a defense like Oklahoma. See the picture of SC below. Kentucky was lucky to win vs SC. Miss st is overrated. Don’t even bring up them playing fsu because Georgia broke them three years ago.
I am really weary of Mike Griffith. This Boston homer is neutral at best on UGA. He evidently loves Alabama, though…. I am just sick of his constant anti-UGA bias. He neither understands nor likes the South. He would be a better sports reporter at the Boston Globe where he could cheer for all the Massachusetts football superpowers. Dawgnation can do much better than him.
Seems like Las Vegas disagrees with the football genius Mike Griffith…
Good that Florida had its one week of fame. Now they are back in the dismal swamp again…. where they belong. We need to put the belt to their QB in ATL. Philo is an Athens native with a bad attitude toward the Dawgs.
I don't always agree with Mike, but he is, in my opinion, a straight shooter and a better than average sportswriter.
@Beachwagon I'm not sure where the "Boston" comes from in your criticism, especially since it's one of the few major league cities I have never traveled to. Born in Mobile, raised in the MidWest, covering SEC football since 1993. But carry on, Beach Wagon! I do welcome feedback even if I am not sure what the issue is here. Alabama has a better resume with two wins on the road against ranked SEC teams. I think Georgia will win that game and is the better program, but the charge when voting on polls is to be objective.
